Julius Baer CCT Finals: Vincent Keymer eliminates Leon Mendonca in tie-breaks

Leon Luke Mendonca put up a valiant effort against Vincent Keymer in the Quarterfinals of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. Keymer made a comeback from being down by a full point to level the score 2-2 and force tie-breaks. The German was too proved to be stronger in the Blitz as he defeated Leon in the second game after their first encounter ended in a draw. Awonder Liang knocked out Nodirbek Abdusattorov without losing a single game. Keymer-Praggnanandhaa and Yoo-Liang Semifinal matches will take place today from 7:30 p.m. IST. Pivotal Pawns defeated Krazy Knights 4-2 to finish the top of the points table at the conclusion of fifth round in CoinDCX Chess Super League. The Kingslayers and Brutal Bishops drew with the Quintessential Queens and Ruthless Rooks respectively. Both Kingslayers and Pivotal Pawns finished the group stage with same score 7.0/10. They will face each other in the Qualifier 1. Brutal Bishops and Ruthless Rooks scored 5.0/10 each. They will play in the Eliminator 1. The winner of Eliminator 1 will play against the losing team of Qualifier 1 in the Eliminator 2. The winner of Qualifier 1 and Eliminator 2 will play the Finals tomorrow. IM Sidhant Mohapatra and untitled Kunal M scored the biggest upsets of the second round as they defeated GMs Paulius Pultinevicius (LTU) and Karen Movsziszian (ARM) respectively at 3rd Yerevan Open. GM Gukesh defeated IM Vaishali in an exciting game after the latter sacrificed her queen but was unable follow through correctly. IMs Padmini and Raahil held GMs Luka Paichadze (GEO) and Alexey Goganov (RUS) to a draw each. WGM Vantika Agrawal also drew with GM Harsha Bharathakoti. Arjun and Abhimanyu also won their games. GM R Praggnanandhaa completely dominated IM Volodar Murzin (RUS) as he beat him in three consecutive games to storm into the Semifinals of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. Pragg did not give a single fragment of opportunity in all three games. The battle between IM Christopher Yoo and GM Lei Tingjie was very close. The only female player in the Finals bounced back in the second game after suffering a loss. The next two Rapid games and the first Blitz tie-break was also drawn. CoinDCX Chess Super League R4: The Kingslayers advance to the Knockout stage on a dramatic day

The Kingslayers have made their way to the knockout stage as they registered their third consecutive victory, defeating Ruthless Rooks 2.5-3.5 in the fourth round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. They started at the bottom by losing the first round, and now they are at the top of the table 6.0/8. Krazy Knights handed Brutal Bishops their first defeat of the event 4-2. Quintessential Queens suffered their third loss of the event, this time against Pivotal Pawns 2-4. Pivotal Pawns, Brutal Bishops, Ruthless Rooks and Krazy Knights fight for the remaining three spots as The Kingslayers cannot be displaced from the top four position even if we consider the worst mathematical outcome in the fifth round. 3rd Yerevan Open R1: Poormosavi holds top seed Narayanan to an exciting draw

15-year-old Iranian youth FM Seyed Kian Poormosavi (IRI) had an exciting game against GM Narayanan S L. It could have gone either player's way, yet the game, much to each player's chagrin, ended in a draw. Gukesh, Arjun and Abhimanyu scored a win each. CM Prraneeth Vuppala had Gukesh on the ropes, but he loosened his grip and let the India's youngest GM in history escape with a win. Among other upsets, untitled Sargis R Mkrtchyan (ARM) held GM Sandipan Chanda and Sambit Panda held IM P Shyam Nikhil to a draw each respectively. Iniyan clinches La Nucia Open

GM P Iniyan scored an unbeaten 7.0/8 to win La Nucia International Open 2021. He had to miss the eighth round game due to his commitments towards CoinDCX Chess Super League, still he managed to win the tournament in just eight games. He won a trophy and €2500 (approx.₹218,400) as a prize. GMs Rodrigo Vasquez Schroeder (CHI) and Andrey Sumets (UKR) also finished with the same score 7.0/9, however they were placed second and third according to the tie-breaks. This is Iniyan's third over-the-board triumph of the year since he won a double at Noisiel Open, fourth overall including online events. Check out Iniyan's favorite game from the tournament with his annotations.

Challengers Chess Tour Finals featuring Leon and Praggnanandhaa starts today

GMs Leon Luke Mendonca and R Praggnanandhaa will start their campaign at Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals today. A total of US$ 40,000 prize fund with the first prize being US$ 12,500 and a regular spot at the next year's Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is up for grabs. Leon will face GM Vincent Keymer (GER) and Praggnanandhaa wil go against IM Volodar Murzin (RUS) in the Quarterfinals. GM Lei Tingjie (CHN) is the sole female player in the Finals. Brutal Bishops made their second consecutive draw to remain unbeaten at the conclusion of the third round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Vidit Gujrathi scored a big win over Ding Liren, Alexandra Kosteniuk defeated Zhansaya Abdumalik to make sure Brutal Bishops remain undefeated so far. Ruthless Rooks defeated Quintessential Queens 3.5-2.5 which is the only team still in search for their first match win. The Kingslayers are going strength to strength as they beat Krazy Knights 4-2. Aleksey Goganov clinches ChessMood Open, Narayanan finishes second

Alexey Goganov (RUS) drew with Narayanan S L in the final round to win the ChessMood Open. Narayanan had to settle for second place. This is the third event of the year when Narayanan performed at over 2700. He gained 10 Elo rating points in this event which took his live rating to 2657. Goganov won 2,500,000 Armenian Drams (approx. ₹3.95 lacs), Narayanan received 1,750,000 AMD (approx. ₹2.76 lacs). Praggnanandhaa, Abhimanyu Puranik and Karthik Venkataraman scored 6.5/9 each. A draw is enough for Goganov to win the tournament, while Narayanan must defeat him to become champion. Both of them will have tie-breaks in their favor if they can score the desired result. GM P Iniyan beat the previous round leader GM Evgeny Postny (ISR) in the fifth round of La Nucia International Open to take the sole lead 4.5/5. Iniyan scored a very nice win with a picturesque finish against Postny who had a huge momentum as he won four consecutive games. Iniyan will face GM Andrey Sumets (UKR) in the sixth round. A total of 87 players in the Open section, including 10GMs, 9 IMs, a WGM and a WIM are taking part from 14 countries across the world.
