Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2 QF1: Arjun misses against Nakamura

Arjun Erigaisi drew with Hikaru Nakamura (USA) in the first game of Quarterfinals at Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2. The World no.4 had an opportunity to push for a win. However, he could not seize it. Later, Nakamura had a chance which he also missed. The game eventually ended in a draw. Magnus Carlsen (NOR) scored the sole victory of the day against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). It means the World Rapid 2021 champion must win the second game to stay in the tournament. The remaining two Quarterfinals games between Vincent Keymer (GER) and Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) ended in draws. GM Abhimanyu Puranik and FM Jeet Jain scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at 3rd Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club Rapid Rating Open 2025. Abhimanyu won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Jeet had to settle for second place. GM Srinath Narayanan scored sole 8/9 to finish third. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by ChessBase India and Phoenix Marketcity, Mumbai at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 5th April 2025. Arjun Erigaisi scored 6.5/11 to finish fourth in the Round-Robin stage of Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2. On the second day, he defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Vidit Gujrathi, drew with Richard Rapport (HUN) and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). The only loss he suffered was against Ian Nepomniachtchi who finished at the top of points table with 8.5/11, same as Magnus Carlsen (NOR). They finished 1.5 points ahead of others. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) scored 7/11 to finish third. Arjun will face Hikaru Nakamura (USA) in the Quarterfinals. The remaining three matches are: Vincent Keymer (GER) vs Nepomniachtchi, Carlsen vs Abdusattorov and MVL vs Fabiano Caruana (USA). They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹550000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. Lalit Ranjan Sahu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 4th IS Rating Open 2025. The 14-year-old finished a half point ahead of the rest. Shreyaskar Tanti, Rabindra Kumar Ojha and Manish Mishra scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹12000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament was organized by IS Chess Centre at Ridhi Sidhi Kalyan Mandap in Cuttack, Odisha from 27th to 31st March 2025. Arjun Erigaisi handed Magnus Carlsen (NOR) his sole loss on the first day of Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2. Carlsen went on to win the next four games and move to the top of the points table. The World no.1 blundered by doing long castle at the wrong time which cost him material and he could not recover for the rest of the game. Arjun finished the day with 3.5/6. He is currently the top Indian performer. R Praggnanandhaa is at 2.5/6. The World Champion had a tough start 1.5/6. Vidit Gujrathi missed a chance to draw with Carlsen in Round 1. IM Aradhya Garg and GM Diptayan Ghosh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 at DCA Blitz Rating Open 2025. Aradhya became champion, Diptayan second according to tie-breaks. Four players - IM Soham Kamotra, IM Nitish Belurkar, IM Ameya Audi and Jval Saurin Patel scored 8/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹40000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. Freestyle Grand Slam Tour Stage 2 starts today in Paris, France. This will be the first time the four of five 45th Olympiad Gold medal winning Indian team members - D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi playing the same tournament. Since then, we all know that Gukesh became the 18th World Champion. Richard Rapport ad Nodirbek Abdusattorov have replaced Alireza Firouzja and Hans Niemann who withdrew from the tournament. There will be six rounds of Rapid games played today in the Round-Robin stage and the remaining five will take place tomorrow. The newly-wed Vidit will face Magnus Carlsen in the very first round. Kaustuv Kundu wins DD-DBCA Rating Open for the third consecutive edition

IM Kaustuv Kundu, Pradeep Kumar R A, FM Matta Vinay Kumar, Arpan Das, IM Subhayan Kundu and FM Aditya Varun Gampa scored 7.5/9 each at 6th DD-DBCA Rating Open 2025. The top seed of the tournament became the champion due to better tie-break scores. The remaining five were placed second to sixth respectively. Kaustuv won this event for the third consecutive edition and completed a hat-trick of winning DD-DBCA Rating tournaments. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000, an increase of 25% worth ₹100000 from the previous edition. The top three prizes were ₹75000 + trophy, ₹60000 and ₹45000 each respectively. The six-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in Kolkata, West Bengal from 26th to 31st March 2025. Pavel Mencik and Marek Krasa dominate Prague International Chess Festival 2025 L Bughouse Blitz Open

Pavel Mencik (CZE) and Marek Krasa (CZE) scored 26.5/28 to win Prague International Chess Festival 2025 L Bughouse Blitz Open. They finished a whopping five points ahead of the runner-up. The Czech team of Zednicek-Broz secured second place scoring 21.5/28. The second runner-up was the Polish team two kids - Smolinski-Korszanski. They scored 19.5/28. The top three prizes were CZK 1000, 600 and 400 each. This was the last event of this year's festival. The eighth edition of the festival will take place from 24th February to 6th March 2026. University of Madras clear first at All India Inter University Women 2025

University of Madras scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win All India Inter Zonal Inter University Women Chess Tournament 2025. The defending champion, Adamas University scored 8/10 to secure second place. Their only loss of the event was against the eventual champion, University of Madras in the penultimate round by 2.5-1.5. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University scored 7/10 to be placed third. The winning team had two WGMs - Savitha Shri B and Rakshitta Ravi. They scored 2.5/3 and 4.5/5 each. WFM Rindhiya V also scored 4.5/5.

Arpan Das wins 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025

Arpan Das, IM Somak Palit and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored 8.5/10 each at 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025.
