Asian Individual 2025 R5: Karthikeyan Murali and Bardiya Daneshvar emerge coleaders

GM Karthikeyan Murali defeated GM Aleksey Grebnev to maintain his lead at Asian Individual Men 2025. Grebnev went wrong in the middlegame when he lost a pawn and control of the position. GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) won against GM Iniyan Pa who erred early in the game. Bardiya and Karthikeyan are the coleaders 4.5/5. They will inevitably clash in the sixth round. GM Pranesh M won comfortably against FM Imangali Akhilbay (KAZ) to move to 4/5. In the Women's event, IM Anastasia Bodnaruk was held to a draw by WCM Bat-Erdene Mungunzul (MGL). It allowed WGM Srija Seshadri to get back in the lead as she defeated WGM Xeniya Balabayeva (KAZ). Srija, Bodnaruk and Mungunzul are at 4.5/5 each. Grosslobming GP R6: Jiner and Vaishali reduce the gap

GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew with GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) in Round 6 of FIDE Grosslobming GP in Austria. Anna is still in sole lead 4.5/6. GM R Vaishali and GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) scored a win each against IM Olga Badelka (AUT) and GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) respectively. Both Vaishali and Jiner have reduced the gap with the sole leader. They are now at 4/6 each, followed by GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) and Dzagnidze at 3.5/6 each. Zhongyi and GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) are the remaining two victors of the round. Superbet Classic R5: Gukesh's Knight Sac almost gone wrong against Duda

For the first time at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Chess Classic 2025, all five games ended in draws. However, not all of them could have had the same outcome. The World Champion, D Gukesh sacrificed his knight in a queen, bishop and knight endgame. Jan-Krzysztof Duda (POL) missed his opportunity to prevent the perpetual check and the game ended in a draw. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) sacrificed an exchange in the final moments. His opponent, R Praggnanandhaa played correctly and gave no chance to his opponent. MVL, Praggnanandhaa and Fabiano Caruana (USA) maintain their lead 3/5 each. Today is the sole rest day. GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) had a well contested draw against GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) in Round 4 of Asian Individual Men 2025. GM Nihal Sarin could have pushed for a win against GM Pranav Anand. However, the game ended in a draw via repetition. GM Karthikeyan Murali and GM Iniyan Pa defeated GM Sina Movahed (IRI) and Yihan Meng (CHN) respectively to join the four-way lead with Bardiya and GM Aleksey Grebnev. IM Anastasia Bodnaruk and WCM Bat-Erdene Mungunzul (MGL) won against GM Valentina Gunina and WIM Afruza Khamdamova (UZB) respectively to become leaders 4/4. After losing against Anna in the second round, GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) made a strong comeback by scoring a hat-trick with a victory over GM R Vaishali. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) drew with GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). Dzagnidze, Jiner and Vaishali are now a full point behind the sole leader, Anna at 3/5 each. Fabiano Caruana (USA) had an uneventful draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). In a battle of World Champions, World Blitz 2021 champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave prevailed over the reigning World Champion, D Gukesh. Thus, MVL joined Caruana and Praggnanandhaa in the lead 2.5/4. Ashutosh Kumar dominates Late Banwari Lal Agrawal Rapid Rating Open 2025

Ashutosh Kumar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Late Banwari Lal Agrawal Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Jayesh Mishra secured second place scoring 8/9. Aniket Ranjan scored sole 7.5/9 to finish third. The total prize fund was ₹51000. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid rating tournament was  organized by Banka District Chess Association at Indoor Stadium in Banka, Bihar on 13th and 14th April 2025. GM R Vaishali drew with GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) to maintain her pursuit. She is now at a half point behind the leader 3/4. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) scored her first win of the event, handing GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) her second consecutive loss of the event. WGM Srija Seshadri defeated WGM Rakshitta Ravi to score a hat-trick at Asian Individual Women 2025. She is now one of the five women at 3/3. WGM Priyanka Nutakki had a great opportunity to win against GM Valentina Gunina. However, she missed it and eventually lost the game. IM Vantika Agrawal escaped with a draw against WCM Khisigbaatar Bayasgalan (MGL) who missed all of her winning chances. In the Men's event, GM Karthikeyan Murali, GM Prraneeth Vuppala and GM Pranesh M drew with GM Iniyan Pa, GM Xiangyu Xu (CHN) and IM Ilamparthi A R respectively. The former World Rapid champion made an incorrect decision by trading his dark-square bishop. The longterm lingering weakness caused him to concede the game. D Gukesh drew against Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) after both player missed slim chances. Fabiano Caruana (USA) got the better of Alireza Firouzja (FRA) who went wrong in the endgame. Last chance to join FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2025 in London

The third edition of FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship will take place in London, England from 10th to 16th June 2025. A total of 12 Indians are slated to take part, as of now. Divya Deshmukh, Vidit Gujrathi, Vishy Anand, Sarbartho Mani, Srinath Narayanan, Arjun Erigaisi, Pentala Harikrishna, Pranav V, Atharvaa P Tayade, Leon Luke Mendonca, Hariharan Raghavan and Nihal Sarin will be representing their respective teams. The total prize fund in Rapid is €310000 an increase of 24% from the previous edition, for Blitz €190000, an increase of 90%. The top three prizes in Rapid are €110000, 70000 and 50000 each, for Blitz €75000, €50000 and €30000 each respectively. Last date of registration is 10th May. IM Ilamparthi A R crushed the second seeded, GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) in Round 2 of Asian Individual Men 2025. The former World Under-14 champion, launched a devastating attack on the kingside and did not allow his opponent to get back in the game. IM Srihari L R drew with the UAE no.1, GM Salem Saleh. GM Pranesh M, the reigning National Rapid 2025 champion, GM Iniyan Pa and GM Prraneeth Vuppala are also at 2/2 each. In the Women's event, WGM Srija Seshadri seized her opportunity in the endgame against IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen (VIE). This was Zhongyi's first loss of the event. GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) misplayed against IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO) and suffered a loss.
