Vidit Gujrathi defeated Alexandr Fier convincingly to secure his place in the third round of FIDE World Cup 2021. He will face Adhiban in a highly anticipated match. The match is bound to evoke mixed feelings as one Indian is inevitably going to be eliminated, the positive aspect is at least one Indian player will definitely advance to Round 4. Gukesh's impressive run has come to an end against Dubov. Padmini lost both of her games, the comeback game was completely winning for her, but she missed a checkmate in one move in time scramble. Now Harika is the sole Indian remaining in the FIDE Women's World Cup 2021. Muradli wins Paracin Open 2021, Arjun Erigaisi finishes second

21st seeded IM Muradli Mahammad of Azerbaijan scored an unbeaten 7.5/9, finished a half point ahead of the competition to win Paracin International Open 2021. Three players finished at 7.0/9. GM Arjun Erigaisi was placed second as he had better tie-breaks. IMs Pranav Venkatesh and Aditya Mittal, GM Abhimanyu Puranik, all three of them scored 6.5/9. They were placed 10th, 14th and 15th according to their tie-breaks. FM Vatsal Singhania scored his second IM-norm. FIDE World Cup 2021 R2.2: Harikrishna, Adhiban, Pragg, Nihal and Harika advance to Round 3

Five Indians - Harikrishna, Adhiban, Praggnanandhaa, Nihal and Harika have secured their place in Round 3 of FIDE World Cup and FIDE Women's World Cup respectively. Only Praggnanandhaa won both of his second round games to advance to the next round. Gukesh, Vidit and Padmini drew their respective games. They will have to play tie-breaks today. Aravindh, Iniyan, Bhakti and Vaishali have lost their respective games, thus their journey at the World Cup 2021 comes to an end. Round 2 tie-break games start today at 5:30 p.m. IST. NC World Masters Game 2: Kramnik makes a draw with Anand

The second game of No Castling World Masters between the legends - Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik ended in a draw. Kramnik started with the English Opening, same as Anand in the previous game. However, this time the queens got exchanged early, and the 14th world champion had an option to go for a different move order while trading a minor piece and creating a passed pawn, but it was not anything substantial. FIDE World Cup 2021 R2.1: Gukesh holds Dubov to a draw

Three out of twelve Indian players won their respective games in Round 2.1. Adhiban scored a fantastic win with a beautiful finish, Praggnanandhaa played the endgame correctly and Harika outplayed her opponent positionally. Both Iniyan and Vaishali who were facing stronger Tomashevsky and Khotenashvili respectively, lost their games, and now they are in a must-win situation. Gukesh who is facing the much stronger Dubov, held his own and managed to make a draw with a very impressive play against the former World Rapid champion. SRCC clinches FIDE Binance Business Schools Super Cup 2021

Shri Ram College of Commerce won the inaugural edition of FIDE Binance Business Schools Super Cup 2021. A total of 32 teams from twelve countries spanning across five continents across the world took part in this event from 9th to 11th July. The entire event was played online at lichess with a time control of 10 mins + 2 seconds increment. The champions received the first ever NFT Trophy by FIDE. All the prize winners will get their medals and the right to participate in an online simultaneous chess game against one of the top Grandmasters in the world. In addition to that, all participants of the event will also get an official NFT tokens of the cup from Binance, one of the sponsor of the event.

All twelve Indian players have advanced to the second round of FIDE World Cup and Women's World Cup 2021. Gukesh won his first tie-break game against Teclaf and drew the next one to advance to the next stage. He will face former World Rapid champion Daniil Dubov in Round 2. Vidit and Adhiban's opponents for the next round was also revealed. They will face GM Alexandr Fier of Brazil and GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez of Paraguay respectively. Paracin Open 2021 R4-6: Arjun Erigaisi in the championship fray

Arjun Erigaisi is the only Indian who is closest to the sole leader IM Raven Sturt at the conclusion of Round 6 of Paracin Open 2021. Arjun is a half point behind the leader, along with three other players. Both IM Sankalp Gupta and IM Aditya Mittal are at an unbeaten 4.5/6, Pranav Venkatesh also has the same score. Sankalp is on his way to score a GM-norm if he can maintain his form in the last three rounds. Aditya and Pranav will also be eyeing to score their second GM-norm. Untitled Shantanu Bhambure had a good opportunity against GM Misratdin Iskandarov, but unfortunately for the former, it ended in a draw. The tournament can still be won by anybody. He will have to play tie-breaks today, thus no rest day for him. Meanwhile, Adhiban, Aravindh, Nihal, Praggnanandhaa, Vaishali and Padmini have won their respective first round matches to advance to the next round. The first edition of the FIDE Online Olympiad is a memorable event for all Indians as team India won their first ever Gold medal at an Olympiad. FIDE World Cup 2021 R1.1: Indian Men and Women off to a fantastic start

Indian Men and Women made a fantastic start to their FIDE World Cup 2021 campaign. Only Gukesh was held to a draw by IM Pawel Teclaf (POL). Gukesh needs to win his next game to advance to Round 2, a draw means he will have to play tie-breaks tomorrow. Adhiban, Aravindh, Nihal, Praggnanandhaa, Iniyan, Vaishali and Padmini scored a victory each. Iniyan is the only Indian who defeated a higher rated opponent, Sebastian Bogner (SUI). Harikrishna, Vidit and Harika got a Bye in Round 1. They will directly play Round 2 on 15th July. Bhakti advanced to Round 2 where she will face Natalija Pogonina (RUS). Vishy Anand makes a fabulous comeback at Croatia Rapid and Blitz GCT

Vishy Anand has once again proved his detractors wrong as he scored 21.0/36, secured clear second position at Croatia Rapid and Blitz Grand Chess Tour. Until this event, the legend had not played any over-the-board chess tournament for almost one and a half years. On the final day, he scored an unbeaten 6.5/9, same as the winner of the tournament, Vachier-Lagrave. Anand had also beaten Kasparov twice on consecutive days, the last time Anand won against Kasparov in a tournament was 1998. That's not all, Anand performed at 2871, gained a massive 40 rating points, taking his live rating to 2825 and climbing to World no.5 in the Blitz ranking in the live ratings list. Croatia Rapid and Blitz Day 4: A nightmarish start for Kasparov

Kasparov has sporadically played some blitz or chess960 event since his retirement, but yesterday's blitz at Croatia Rapid and Blitz GCT was the most horrifying start he has ever had in recent times. Not only because he is not in competitive shape, but also he is playing against the best of the best world who are at their prime. Playing blitz is certainly not an easy task against the players who are in regular touch. Thus, he managed to make only one draw and suffer eight losses. He came very close to winning against Giri and Vachier-Lagrave but he was not able to convert them.
