Andrei Shchekachev triumphs at Paris IdF Masters 2022, Harsha Bharathakoti second

GM Andrei Shchekachev (FRA) and GM Harsha Bharathakoti scored 6.5/9 each at Paris IdF Masters. Andrei won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Harsha was placed second. Four players - GM Daniil Yuffa (ESP), IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad, IM Sidhant Mohapatra and IM Milosz Szpar (POL) scored 6/9 each. They were placed third to sixth as per tie-breaks. Harsha beat the eventual champion Andrei in the sixth round. 12-year-old FM Aarav Dengla scored an IM-norm. Total prize fund of the tournament was €13000. Top three prizes were €2500, €1200 and €1000 along with a trophy each.

Haik Martirosyan wins 55th Biel QBT Open, Harshit Raja second and Bharath Subramaniyam third

Armenia no.2 and the top seed of the tournament scored a mammoth 12.5/13 at 55th Biel Chess Festival QBT. It was an unprecedented result at the event. He finished a massive 2.5 points ahead of the competition. India's 69th GM Harshit Raja scored 10/13 to secure sole second place. Three player made 9.5/13. Out of them, India's 73rd GM Bharath Subramaniyam H was placed third according to tie-breaks. Gukesh scored 7.5/14 in the GMT Blitz event to finish fifth. Gata Kamsky won the segment scoring 8.5/14. However, Gukesh is still in the lead. MTO Round 5 will start today 18th July at 2 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST), Today is a rest day for the GMT participants. Gukesh becomes the youngest Indian, third youngest in the world to cross 2700, now World no.32

The youngest Indian Grandmaster, D Gukesh is now the youngest Indian to cross 2700 Elo rating. At the age of 16 years and a little over 1.5 months, Gukesh became the third youngest in the world after Wei Yi and Alireza Firouzja to cross the magical rating barrier. He is the sixth Indian to achieve this incredible feat after Vishy Anand, Krishnan Sasikiran, Pentala Harikrishna, Vidit Gujrathi and B Adhiban. He defeated World Blitz 2013 champion, GM Liem Quang Le (VIE) to take his live rating to 2703.9 and become World #32. The calm and composed teenager has also emerged as the sole leader of the GMT with 16.5/26. GMT Round 4 starts Tuesday 19th July at 2 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST). A total of 14-rounds of Blitz will be played today in a double round-robin format. Praggnanandhaa clinches 15th Paracin Open with a 2789 performance, now World no.89

Praggnanandhaa scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 15th Paracin Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Just like his Kvika Reykjavik Open triumph earlier this year, here also the tie-breaks became a non-factor. IM Muthaiah Al scored an impressive 7/9. He was placed fourth according to tie-breaks. IM Pranav Venkatesh, GM Arjun Kalyan and IM Harshavardhan G B scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed fifth, seventh and eighth according to tie-breaks. FM Rohith Krishna S won the 18th Memorial Rapid with an unbeaten 8/9. IM Harikrishnan A Ra secured third place 7.5/9. 55th Biel MTO R4: Visakh N R emerges sole leader

GM Visakh N R completely outplayed GM Abhimanyu Puranik to emerge as sole leader at 55th Biel Chess Festival MTO. Visakh locked down the kingside to prevent any kind of onslaught on his king and then launched an attack on the queenside. Abhimanyu kept fighting in a crippled position to find a way to revive his chances, however Visakh thwarted all his attempts. IM Pranav Anand held GM Aryan Chopra to a draw. Aryan, Pranav, Shant Sargsyan (ARM), Sethuraman S P, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Alexander Motylev and Leon Luke Mendonca are in pursuit at 3.5/4 each. The 21st seed of the open section, Vrashank Chouhan [Rajasthan] is putting up a fantastic show. He has scored 7/7 so far in the MPL 51st National junior open championships! 9 players are tied on 5.5/7 after that. In the girl's section, top seed WIM Rakshitta Ravi is on a golden run, unbeaten so far with 7/7. Velpula Sarayu [Telengana] is in the 2nd spot with 6/7, while the reigning national U-17 girls champion Bhagyashree Patil is in the 3rd spot scoring 5.5/7, tied with 2 other players. Aravindh Chithambaram wins 41st Villa de Benasque Open 2022, Raunak Sadhwani third

Ten players including GM Aravindh Chithambaram and GM Raunak Sadhwani scored 8/10 each. Aravindh, GM Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM) and Raunak were placed first, second and third according to tie-breaks at 41st Benasque International Open 2022. Aravindh made a good recovery after a seventh round loss against GM Vojtech Plat (CZE). He won the last two crucial games to finish first. The final round win featuring a queen sacrifice is truly a fantastic one. As we slowly ease into the new normal after Covid-19 pandemic, we are once again back dominating the chess universe all over the globe. GM Aryan Chopra, GM Visakh N R and IM Pranav Anand scored fantastic wins over GM Vladimir Fedoseev, GM Kirill Shevchenko (UKR) and GM Maxime Lagarde (FRA) respectively. Thus, currently four Indians are sharing the lead at 55th Biel Chess Festival 2022 MTO, GM Abhimanyu Puranik along with the three victors mentioned before. Mitrabha Guha relays the Chess Olympiad Torch at ten cities across the country

India's 72nd and West Bengal's ninth GM Mitrabha Guha received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Kolkata, West Bengal from GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury. He relayed it to nine more cities in six states across the country. Kolkata witnessed the highest number of GMs at a single Torch Relay event so far. India's 35th GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury, 51st GM Saptarshi Roy, 72nd GM Mitrabha and 14th GM Neelotpal Das graced everyone with their presence. The list of accolades they have accumulated over the years is countless. 20 children and chess enthusiasts got an opportunity to face the GMs in a tandem simul. 55th Biel GMT R1: Gukesh overpowers Abdusattorov, reaches 2698.7 and now World #39

D Gukesh made a fantastic start at the Classical event of 55th Biel Chess Festival GMT. The youngest GM of India knew very well that he has the reigning World Rapid champion's number. He defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the Chess960, was very close to winning the Rapid too. In Classical, a relentless attack eventually forced his opponent to cave in. This win netted him four points which put him at the second place 11/18, a half point behind the tournament leader Andrey Esipenko who is at 11.5/18. Gukesh also moved to 2698.7 in the live ratings and is he now the World no.39. Round 2 starts today at 2 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST).

FTX Road to Miami QF: Levon Aronian eliminates Arjun Erigaisi

Arjun Erigaisi started the Quarterfinals with a win. He drew the next game and then lost the next two to get eliminated by Aronian. Unlike last year, things did not spill into tie-breaks and there were more decisive games. Arjun had a decent chance to draw both games which he lost, however neither was easy to save. Both players have a lot of respect towards each other. Their next chapter might be written sooner than one can expect. Aronian will face Duda in a battle among the World Cup winners. Rupam, Anwesh and Siddhant Gawai are the winners at 15th G H Raisoni Memorial Chess Festival 2022

Rupam Mukherjee scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win 15th G H Raisoni Memorial Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to secure second position. He also won the Rapid Rating Open scoring 8.5/9 and finished second in the Blitz Rating Open with the same score. 14-year-old Siddhant Gawai scored 8/10 to secure third place according to tie-breaks in the Classical event. He also won the Blitz event scoring 8.5/9. Total prize fund combining all three tournaments was ₹400000. Top three prizes in the Classical were ₹50000 and a trophy, ₹30000 and ₹25000.

Slovakia Open Piestany 2022 R2-4: Isha Sharma outplays Michal Krasenkow

WIM Isha Sharma continues her great form at Slovakia Open Piestany 2022. She completely outplayed the legendary GM Michal Krasenkow (POL) in the third round. The first WIM of Karnataka, made an interesting sacrifice in the opening which she used to her advantage quite well. In Round 4, she drew with IM Filip Haring (SVK) to take her score to 2.5/4. FM Shantanu Bhambure and WIM Savitha Shri B are also at the same score. GM Artem Omelja (UKR) has emerged as the sole leader 4/4. FTX Road to Miami R13-15: Arjun Erigaisi set to clash with Aronian in the Quarterfinals

Arjun Erigaisi squashed Jeffery Xiong in a 21-move miniature. He drew with Anish Giri and one of his seconds, Aryan Tari. A year and about two weeks later, the reigning National Senior champion became the only Indian to advance to the Knockout stage of a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event, twice. The last time the teenager faced the two-time World Cup winner, Aronian was at the exact same stage, Arjun ended Aronian's unbeaten streak at the Goldmoney Asian Rapid. Thus, the saga began.
