Anton Korobov clinches Czech Open 2022 Rapid, Harsha Bharathakoti third

The top three seeds, GM Anton Korobov (UKR), GM Alexander Donchenko (GER), GM Harsha Bharathakoti and fifth seed GM Vojtech Plat (CZE) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed first to fourth according to tie-breaks in Czech Open 2022 Pardubice G Rapid. Except Plat, all three podium finishers lost one game each. Donchenko defeated both the champion and the second runner-up. Harsha is currently unbeaten 4/5 in the GM Open A event. Team Japan at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

Japan, the “land of the rising sun” is very well known for its technological advances, the Shinkansen (bullet train), old temples, beautiful cherry blossoms and regular achievements at the Olympics. Yet, with its relatively small chess playing community, Japan is still something of an enigma in the chess world. The upcoming Chess Olympiad to be held in Chennai, India being in everyone’s focus, I am going to attempt to share a little about Japan’s diverse chess players who are representing their country at the Olympiad. All information, photos, achievements and introductions are based on the text provided by National Chess Society of Japan (NCS) with a few modifications from me where necessary. Vishnu, Akash and Neelotpal relay the Chess Olympiad Torch from Kerala to Andaman and Nicobar Islands

India's 33rd GM Vishnu Prasanna relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch at Marottichal, Thrissur in Kerala. Marottichal is famous for being the village which was saved by chess. Vishnu is the trainer of India's youngest and fourth youngest in history to break 2700, GM D Gukesh. The strong GM from Tamil Nadu has won tournaments in Spain, a Blitz event in 9th London Chess Classic. He also won the Olympiad Curtain Raiser Rapid Rating Open within three days after relaying the Torch. India's 66th GM and youngest National Senior champion of the country, GM Akash Ganesan and India's 14th GM Neelotpal Das relayed the Torch in Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands respectively. Alexandr Predke wins Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters, Koustav Chatterjee second

GM Alexandr Predke scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the field to win Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters 2022. IM Koustav Chatterjee scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. GM Nikita Petrov secured third place scoring 7/9. It was a successful event for the Indian contingency as S Rohith Krishna became the latest International Master of India, by scoring his final IM-norm. Vaibhav Jayant Raut and Ilamparthi A R scored their maiden IM-norms. The total prize fund of the tournament was €12500, €9950 for Masters and €2550 for Amateurs. Dylan Isidro triumphs at 22nd Sant Marti Open, Aronyak Ghosh third

IM Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason (CUB), GM Hipolito Asis Gargatagli (ESP) and IM Aronyak Ghosh scored 7/9 each at 22nd Sant Marti International Open. They were placed first, second and third according to tie-breaks. Both Hipolito and Aronyak remained undefeated. Total prize fund of the tournament was €7210. Top three prizes were €1200, €1000 and €700 along with a trophy each. Arpan Das was the highest untitled and second-highest Indian finisher at 11th place, scoring 6/9. Hrithickkesh Pr dominates Dr. KCG Verghese Memorial Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, Hrithickkesh Pr scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Dr. KCG Verghese Memorial Rating Open 2022. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Six players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Sa Kannan and Badrinarayanan N secured second and third place according to tie-breaks.The total prize fund of the event was ₹200000. Top three prizes  were ₹25000 and a trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each respectively. This is Hrithickkesh's third triumph of the year. Dmitrij Kollars is the winner of NC World Masters 2022, Vishy Anand second

Last-minute replacement, Germany no.4 Dmitrij Kollars defeated Daniel Fridman to win NC World Masters 2022. Both Kollars and defending champion, Vishy Anand scored 3.5/6 each. However, Kollars won the tournament on tie-breaks as the scored one more win than the maestro. The five-time world champion remained undefeated in the event, which clearly shows that his grasp of this chess variant is quite well. 50th National Junior 2022 Girls champion and National Women 2022 second runner-up, WGM Priyanka Nutakki defeated WFM Katharina Ricken (NED) in the final round to finish third in the NRW Women's Cup. Liem Quang Le wins 55th Biel GMT, Gukesh third

D Gukesh lost his final round game against the UAE no.1 Salem Saleh. Liem Quang Le drew with Andrey Esipenko to win 55th Biel Chess Festival GMT (Grandmaster Triathlon) 35.5/56. Esipenko finished second 32.5/37 and Gukesh third 29.5/37. The fourth-youngest to cross 2700 certainly delivered an impressive performance. He might look visibly upset on the podium, however he has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest Indian to cross, 2700 in the live ratings. IM Prraneeth Vuppala earned his second GM-norn. He needs one more GM-norm and cross the rating barrier to become India's next GM. 14-year-old Manmay Chopra won the ATO (Amateur Tournament). Gukesh reaching 2700 Elo was a big milestone in the career of the youngster. He did it at the age of just 16 years making him the fourth youngest player in the history of chess to achieve this feat (after Wei Yi, Carlsen and Firouzja). Vrashank Chouhan and Rakshitta Ravi win the MPL 51st National Junior Open and Girls Championships

Vrashank Chouhan (Rajasthan) and WIM Rakshitta Ravi (Tamil Nadu) clinched the first place in the MPL 51st National Juniors U-19 2022. Vignesh B and Arun Kataria tied for second place with 8.5/11, but Vignesh took the second spot due to better tiebreaks. The top 2 seeds of the open section, IM Raahul VS and IM Avinash Ramesh both had dismal events, and finished with 4.5/11 and 5/11. In the Girl's section, top seed WIM Rakshitta Ravi went undefeated throughout the whole event, scoring 9.5/11. WIM Bommini Mounika Akshaya and WFM Bhagyashree Patil finished a full point behind with 8.5/11, Bommini claimed the second spot due to better tiebreaks. The five-time world champion, Vishy Anand has returned to Dortmund. He started his defense of NC World Masters champion title which he won last year by defeating the Vladimir Kramnik. The 14th world champion had to pull out due to some health issues. Anand joined the event from the second round where he drew with the English legend, Michael Adams. The other two participants are European Team Champion for Germany in 2011, GM FST Daniel Fridman. The fourth participant is the youngest in the event, Germany no.4 and Runner-up in Deutschland Grand Prix 2021, GM Dmitrij Kollars. Vishy Anand is still in the sole lead 2.5/4. Thej Kumar, Stany, Girish and Viani relay the Chess Olympiad Torch in Karnataka

Karnataka's first and India's 50th Grandmaster Thej Kumar M S, the state's second and third GMs Stany G A and Girish Koushik along with Arjuna Awardee and the state's first IM D V Prasad, IM Viani Antonio D'cunha relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The veteran and much accomplished FIDE Trainer, D V Prasad became an International Master when Thej was a toddler in 1986 and the rest of the GMs were yet to be born. His win against Mikhail Tal is certainly iconic. Thej, Stany and Girish has won lots of tournaments all over the country and the world. The Torch went to Lakshadweep from Karnataka. Vishy Anand gains sole lead at NC World Masters 2022

Vishy Anand played the first round game against Dmitrij Kollars on the rest day of the NC World Masters. It could not take place on the scheduled day because of Vladimir Kramnik's illness. Viswanathan Anand goes into his last game with a half-point lead over direct opponent Michael Adams and Dmitrij Kollars at the No-Castling World Masters in Dortmund. His game against Michael Adams today will determine who wins the championship!
