One of the biggest and most famous chess festivals in the world, the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival is going to start on 16th August 2022.   The "land of the Gazelle" will play host to many 2700+ GMs who will participate in the Master's event. A total of 83 Indian players will participate in the Masters section, while 77 Indian players will play in the Open section. Some of the top Indian players in the Masters section include GMs Arjun Erigaisi, Nihal Sarin, and Abhijeet Gupta What is the schedule and prize money for the event? Invincible Uzbekistan claims Gold at 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 Open

The average age of Uzbekistan Open team was 20 years. The youngest member of the team Javokhir Sindarov is 16-years-old. He was also the second-youngest Grandmaster in history for a brief time. Nodirbek Yakubboev, Jakhongir Vakhidov and Shamsiddin Vokhidov remained undefeated in a total of 23 games out of 44. In fact, Uzbekistan team members lost only three games in the entire event. They never lost a match as a team. Armenia also scored 19/22. They secured Silver according to tie-breaks. India 2 secured Bronze scoring sole 18/22. Abdimalik Abdisalimov wins 9th City of Famalicão Open, Sayantan Das second

IM Abdimalik Abdisalimov (UZB) and IM Sayantan Das finished with 7.5/9 each. However, Abdisalimov had beaten Sayantan in the sixth round of 9th City of Famalicão International Open. Thus, the Uzbek won the tournament on tie-breaks and Sayantan was placed second. Five players scored 7/9 each. GM Lelys Stanley Martinez Duany (CUB) finished third, IM C R G Krishna and IM Aditya Mittal were placed fourth and fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Aditya is now four rating points away from becoming India's next Grandmaster. The total prize fund of the tournament was €4000. Tamil Nadu State Government awards ₹1 Crore each to the Bronze medal winning Indian teams

The Indian teams played phenomenal chess at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. The team performances were outstanding not only because the players played some amazing chess but also due to the immense contribution made the coaches, assistant coaches and seconds of the team. It was indeed a team effort which earned India a historic double Bronze at the biggest Olympiad in history. Records were broken and new statistics were formed due to the harmony showcased both on and off the board. India wins a historic double Bronze at 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

India 2 defeated Germany in the final round to finish with 18/22. Armenia and Uzbekistan defeated Spain and Netherlands 2.5-1.5 to finish with 19/22 each. Uzbekistan won the Gold medal at 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 in the Open section, Armenia earned the Silver according to tie-breaks. India 2 secured the Bronze medal. India 1 drew with USA 2-2 to finish fourth. In the Women's section, India 1 lost to USA 1-3. Even a draw would have been enough to win Silver. Ukraine and Georgia defeated Poland and Azerbaijan 3-1 respectively. Both Ukraine and Georgia scored 18/22 each. They secured Gold and Silver medal as per the tie-breaks. India won the Bronze scoring 17/22. For the first time, India won Bronze medal in each Open and Women sections. 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R10: Indian Women eye the Gold, Men fight for a medal

India 1 Women bounced back strong by absolutely dominating Kazakhstan with a resounding 3.5-0.5 victory. A win against USA in the final round earns them gold, while a draw will leave their fate on others' hands. In the Open section, India 2 drew with Uzbekistan 2-2 and Iran lost to India 1 by a minimum margin 1.5-2.5. Uzbekistan and Armenia shared the lead 17/20, followed by India 2, India 1 and USA at 16/20 each. India 1 and 2 would hope both the leaders lose their respective games and either of them win their respective matches to win the Gold. Vishy Anand becomes the new FIDE Deputy President

Arkady Dvorkovich has been reelected for a second term as President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) with 157 votes, against 16 for his electoral opponent, the Ukrainian chess Grandmaster Andrii Baryshpolets. A third candidate, the French Bachar Kouatly, withdrew his candidacy after giving his speech before the voting started. Five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, who was part of Dvorkovich's ticket, is the new FIDE Deputy President. 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R9: Praggnanandhaa saves the day for India 2

India 2 drew with Azerbaijan in Round 9 of 44th Chess Olympiad. The score was 1-2 in the Azerbaijan's favor when Praggnanandhaa found himself in a must-win situation against Vasif Durarbayli. He managed to beat the Azeri on-demand. Thus, making sure India continues to fight for the gold. India 1 dominated Brazil 3-1, thanks to Arjun Erigaisi and K Sasikiran's wins. In the Women's section, India 1 suffered their first loss of the event against Poland by 2.5-1.5. The unstoppable WIM Oliwia Kiolbasa scored her ninth consecutive win. India 2 defeating USA does not come as a surprise. Sure it is a major upset, however one should certainly expect D Gukesh and Raunak Sadhwani beating Fabiano Caruana and Leinier Dominguez-Perez respectively on the biggest stage. The teenagers are on the rise, they are fearless, always ready to take risks and seize their chances. Computer might say Gukesh had a difficult position at one point, but the boy hasn't used computer until a couple of years ago. Nihal Sarin and Praggnanandhaa also drew with the World-Class Levon Aronian and Wesley So. Gabriel Sargissian grinded a drawn endgame to win against Harikrishna. Moksh Amit Doshi scores GM-norm at Czech Open Pardubice 2022, finishes second

GM Alexander Donchenko (GER) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9. He finished a half point ahead of the field to win the Czech Open Pardubice 2022. Three players scored 7/9 each. IM Moksh Amit Doshi and GM Jiri Stocek (CZE) secured second and third place according to the tie-breaks. They both remained unbeaten. Moksh earned his maiden GM-norm. FM Nikhil Dixit scored his third and Soham Datar first IM-norm respectively. WIM Savitha Shri B secured her second WGM-norm. Her live rating is 2434.8 which makes her now India no.4 among women. 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R7: Gukesh 7/7, now World no.25, Indian Women extend their lead

Azerbaijan went down against India 1 women 1.5-2.5 in the seventh round of 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. Humpy suffered her first loss against Azerbaijan no.1 woman, IM Gunay Mammadzada. Although the team won the match, thanks to Vaishali and Tania's resounding victories. They are now two points ahead of Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia. India 1 will face their toughest challenge against Ukraine in Round 8. In the Open section, India 1 expectedly won against India 3 by 3-1. Arjun Erigaisi and S L Narayanan scored the wins. 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R6: Gukesh wins six in-a-row, now World no.26, India decimates Georgia Women

India 1 dominated Georgia women by 3-1 in the sixth round of 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. Humpy and Vaishali scored emphatic victories, Harika and Tania held the fort by drawing their respective games. India 2 suffered their first loss of the event against the tournament leader Armenia 1.5-2.5. D Gukesh scored his sixth consecutive win to take his live rating to 2719.3 and become World #26. Harikrishna defeated the reigning World Rapid champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov to ensure India 1 can hold a draw with Uzbekistan 2-2. India 2 Women were held to a draw by much lower rated Czech Republic. Neither team managed to score a win. India 3 defeated Lithuania 3.5-0.5 to setup a clash with India 1 in the next round.
