Asian Continental 2022 R2: Pranesh and Rakshitta score huge upsets

The second round of the Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022 had plenty of upsets. The reigning National Sub-Junior Open champion IM Pranesh M scored a huge victory over the reigning National Rapid and Blitz champion, GM Aravindh Chithambaram. In the Women's event, the current National Junior Girls champion, WIM Rakshitta Ravi defeated former Asian Continental Women's champion, IM Bhakti Kulkarni. GM Aryan Chopra made a narrow escape against IM Shahil Dey. FM Ritviz Parab and FM Sambit Panda defeated GM Arjun Kalyan and GM Iniyan P respectively. Round 3 starts today at 2:30 p.m. IST. Shiva Suri wins the 1st ever Giant Rapid Chess tournament

Sarath City mall is one of the biggest malls in India which hosts some of the biggest brands and events. They came up with the unique idea of putting up a giant chess board in the mall area and giving the visitors a chance to play a game on the big chess board. The organizers saw a lot of interest among random visitors who enjoyed playing the game in front of a huge crowd and with chill music. They wanted to do something special with the giant chessboard and came up with the idea of a “Giant Rapid Chess tournament" with a cash prize of Rs. 27,000.  ChessBase India joined them to organize the event.

World Fischer Random 2022 R3-4: Abdusattorov storms into Semifinals

Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) defeated Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson in all four of their games. However, the Iceland no.1 got a golden opportunity to score his first win of the event against the current World Rapid champion in the first game of their fourth round encounter. He missed it and thus, Abdusattorov advanced to the Semifinals with two rounds to spare. Ian Nepomniachtchi defeated the defending champion Wesley So 2-0 in their fourth round match after the latter got confused about castling rule. Thus, he is on the brink of elimination. Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Humpy and Lei stay ahead

It was a peaceful day at FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A Quarterfinals. Both games ended in draws. Anna Muzychuk went for an all-out attack against Koneru Humpy. It could have backfired her if Humpy spotted the correct continuation. She didn't and the game ended in a draw. The other Quarterfinal game between Mariya Muzychuk and Lei Tingjei was a calm draw. Humpy and Lei, both are now just a win away from winning the Quarterfinals and advancing to the Semifinals. Asian Continental 2022 R1: A tough start for the top seeds

Top seeds GM R Praggnanandhaa and IM Tania Sachdev did not have it easy in the first round. Turkmenistan no.3 IM Saparmyrat Atabayev and WGM-elect WIM Sakshi Chitlange, both gave their respective higher rated opponents zero chance, earned a half point for themselves. Untitled Sanket Chakravarty and double IM-norm holder FM Sharan Rao scored big wins against GM Arjun Kalyan and GM Deep Sengupta. Both games were quite intriguing. IM Raahil Mullick wins the 1st ChessBase India Club Tournament

The 1st ChessBase India Club tournament took place on 23rd October, 2022 at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Mumbai. A total of 39 players took part in the event, the eligibility condition was the players had to attend the club all 3 Saturdays of the month. There was no entry fee for the tournament, the only fee was the weekly attendance of players in the Club. IM Raahil Mullick was the top seed of the event, rated 2288. The top 3 players were given cash prizes as well as trophies, and the 1st prize was Rs. 5000.

World Fischer Random 2022 R1-2: Abdusattorov shines against Nepomniachtchi and So

Reigning World Rapid champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) made a fantastic start at FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship. He defeated the World Championship Challenger, Ian Nepomniachtchi 2-0 in Round 1. Then he beat the defending champion Wesley So (USA) in the second round. Hikaru Nakamura also both of his matches in the first two rounds. The second win was against Magnus Carlsen. The world champion left his rook unguarded and lost it in just a one move tactic without any compensation against the Speed King. Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Humpy makes a perfect start

Koneru Humpy made a perfect start at FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23. She won the first game of the Quarterfinals in just 24 moves against Anna Muzychuk. The India no.1 and World no.3 woman did not expect her opponent to opt for Queen's Gambit Accepted line. Soon she landed in trouble and Humpy seized her opportunity. Mariya Muzychuk also had a tough start. She lost to the Candidates debutant, Lei Tingjie in the first game. Both games were won with the white pieces. Asian Continental Open and Women's championship is less than 24 hours away now. It is the strongest tournament India is hosting a little over 75 days after the successful completion of the globally acclaimed 44th Chess Olympiad. The top four in Open and top two in the Women will qualify to the respective FIDE World Cup 2023. Total US$ 60000 prize is up for grabs. Top three prizes in the Open section are $7000, $6000 and $5000, it is $6000, $5000 and $3000 in the Women's. Humpy to face Anna Muzychuk in the Pool A Quarterfinals of FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23

One half of the FIDE Women's Candidates participants will battle in Monaco. The tournament to determine the Challenger for Ju Wenjun and play for the Women's World Championship will be held in two phases. Pool A comprises Anna Muzychuk, Koneru Humpy, Lei Tingjie and Mariya Muzychuk. Anna will face Humpy and Tingjie will battle against Mariya in two Quarterfinal matches in a best of four games. The winner of each Quarterfinal matches will face each other in the Semifinals which will also have the same number of games. The Chennai Chess Olympiad Documentary

The Chess Olympiad 2022 was held in Chennai. It was the single biggest chess event held in India so far - a total of 188 nations took part in this mega chess festival. Abhyudaya Ram from the ChessBase India team created a documentary on the full Chennai Chess Olympiad and the events which lead up to it. Hage Lasa Nado wins 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022

Hage Lasa Nado scored 8/9 to win 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022. Despite losing his second round game, Hage registered seven consecutive victories, including an important win over the top seed Dupit Tabu in the final round to become the champion. Dupit scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Five players scored 7/9. Barbith M Sangma was placed third according to the tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹177000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. This was the first-ever Rating tournament in Meghalaya for the players of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh players only. It is believed that the hardest battle one can have is with their own self. We often doubt ourselves, question our decisions, judgments, wonder if we could have done something differently. Once we are past the battle with ourselves, we are ready to conquer whatever we put our mind to. The things we know to be as correct, can sometimes prove to be not. Automatic decisions and moves can prove to have quite the opposite of our desired result. Robert Hovhannisyan wins Hoogeveen Open 2022, Bharath Subramaniyam third

GM Robert Hovhanniyan (ARM) defeated IM Nico Zwirs (NED) in the Finals to win Hoogeveen Open 2022. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H won the 3rd-4th place match against GM Evgeny Romanov (NOR) to finish third. Bharath drew their Classical encounter and then won both Blitz tie-breaks against Romanov. Earlier Bharath had defeated the eventual champion Hovhannisyan in the sixth round before the final four played their Semifinal matches. The total prize fund of the tournament was €9500.
