Speed King Hikaru Nakamura becomes World Fischer Random Champion

The Speed King has finally done it. He earned the ever-alluring World title. If anyone in the current day top player who has not a won world title yet, deserves one, Hikaru Nakamura's name will be the first one in the list. The man who had to prove himself by qualifying through hours of grueling battle on lichess, defeated the hand-picked Wildcard Ian Nepomniachtchi in the Finals. He won the Armageddon to become the World Fischer Random champion. 50 years later after the Fischer-Spassky match, history repeated as an American defeated a Russian to become a World Champion for the very first time at the same place - Reykjavik, Iceland. MPL 35th National U-11 Round 1-3: Swaraj and Sagnik score big upsets

The MPL 35th National Under-11 Open and Girls Championship is taking place in Gurugram, Haryana. A total of 25 players have scored a perfect 3/3 so far in the Open section, and 8 players in the Girls section. The top seed in the Open section is FM Rosh Jain (2333), and in the girls section it is Prishita Gupta (1556). The World Cadets 2022 U-8 Girls Champion Charvi A is the only female player who is playing in the Open section! Asian Continental 2022 R5: Harsha Bharathakoti races ahead

GM Harsha Bharathakoti defeated IM Koustav Chatterjee convincingly to gain sole lead 4.5/5. Seven GMs are trailing him by a half point. He surprised his opponent with Scotch opening in the fifth round of Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022. The 24th HZ University Open winner will face the top seed, GM Praggnanandhaa in the sixth round. In the Women's event, both WGM Nandhidhaa P V and WGM Priyanka Nutakki scored emphatic victories over WGM Thi Kim Phung Vo (VIE) and IM Soumya Swaminathan respectively to become coleaders 4.5/5. The Chess Houseboat event returns!

The much anticipated Chess Houseboat event returns to the tourist-friendly exotic south Indian state of Kerala again, after the inaugural event in 2020. The second edition of the event has been scheduled to be held between 22nd to 28th Jan 2023, with a total cash prize fund of 2300 Euros with a first prize of 500 Euros, and a further 1700 Euros worth of material prizes and trophies. It will include a nine round Rapid chess tournament spread across five days with a time control of G20+5 and a single day Blitz tournament.

Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Anna Muzychuk forces tie-breaks

Anna Muzychuk (UKR) won the must-win fourth game of FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A Quarterfnals. She will now play tie-breaks today against Koneru Humpy. Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) drew with Lei Tingjie (CHN) which means the latter advanced to the Semifinals where she will face the winner of the Anna-Humpy tie-breaks. The Quarterfinal tie-breaks consist of four Rapid games of 15 mins + 10 seconds increment. If needed, there will be Blitz games to decide the second Semifinalist. World Fischer Random 2022 SF: Nakamura to face Nepomniachtchi in the Finals, Carlsen crashes out

Very few would have predicted that Hikaru Nakamura and Ian Nepomniachtchi will be the finalists of World Fischer Random Championship 2022. Nodirbek Abdusattorov was in terrific form and Magnus Carlsen did not show any chink in his armor. However, the Viking seemed to be off his game and Nakamura schooled the world rapid champion with his creative and sharp play. The Uzbek had his fair share of chances, however he did not manage to seize any of them. The world champion losing three games in-a-row in an over-the-board event is extremely rare, probably unprecedented too. Who do you think will win the Finals between Nakamura and Nepomniachtchi? GM Leon Luke Mendonca drew with GM S L Narayanan with an epic save in the end. Finding a combination to force perpetual check under pressure is no easy task. Both GM Praggnanandhaa and GM Karthikeyan Murali showed their finesse to beat India's latest GM Pranav Anand and GM-elect IM Aditya Mittal. IM Koustav Chatterjee got lucky once again and this time he scored a full point against Kazakhstan no.1 GM Rinat Jumabayev. GM Harsha Bharathakoti won a razor sharp encounter against GM Sandipan Chanda. WGM Priyanka Nutakki thwarted the top seed IM Tania Sachdev's ambitious approach. India to play in the World Team Championship 2022!

The 12 teams for the FIDE World Team Championship in Jerusalem (November 19-26) have been confirmed. Team India is also taking part in the event! The Indian squad consists of 6 players, and a total of 4 players will represent Team India on the board. The format of the tournament will be a mix of round-robin and knockout. The event will be held in the Dan Jerusalem Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel.  In this article, we talk about the composition of the Indian team, the format, time control, and the competition which Team India is up against.

Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Humpy and Lei move closer to the Semifinals

The third game at the FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A Quarterfinals had the same result as the previous round. Both games once again ended in draws. Koneru Humpy and Anna Muzychuk had a solid draw. Although the former avoided a disaster when she realized that her rook was about to be lost, she placed it correctly, according to her opponent. Mariya Muzychuk had some practical chances against Lei Tingjie, however she could not make the most out of it. Both Humpy and Lei need a draw to advance to the Semifinals. A plea to help GM Konstantin Landa's family

On the chess board, he won many battles. His career high Elo was 2678. He helped many of his students win huge chess events and wrote best-selling books. He helped FIDE's anti-cheating commission and in all senses was a huge asset to the world of chess. GM Konstantin Landa left us too early at the age of 50 years. On 12th of October after a prolonged fight with Glioblastoma, Konstantin gave up. In this article we bring you messages from the chess community for this great chess personality. At the end, we also make a plea to help his family cover his funeral costs.

GM Leon Luke Mendonca continues his good form from World Junior 2022. He seized his opportunity against Mongolia no.3 GM Tsegmed Batchuluun to become the sole leader 3/3. GM Karthikeyan Murali missed a great opportunity to score a win against IM Koustav Chatterjee. In the Women's section, IM Tania Sachdev won her game using tactics against WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty. WIM Saina Salonika handed Mongolia no.2 woman, IM Davaademberel Nomin-Erdene her second defeat of the event. Kartavya Anadkat bags the first prize at 7th N L Pandiyar Rating Open 2022

Kartavya Anadkat with an impressive score of 8/9 won the seventh edition of the N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open Chess Tournament. It was held in the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan from the 8th to 12th October. The winner took home the cash prize of ₹1,11,000. He finished half a point ahead of FM Sauravh Khherdekar and Basak Bishal, who finished second and third in the tournament, earned the cash prize of ₹71,000 and ₹41,000 respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹15,01,000. A total of 173 prizes were up for grabs in various categories. Three prizes were of more than 1 lac rupees, and five more than 50,000 rupees. World Fischer Random 2022 R5-6: Carlsen, Nakamura and Nepo join Abdusattorov in the Semifinals

Iceland no.1 Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson won his first game of World Fischer Random Championship 2022 against the defending champion Wesley So. The now former champion, So redeemed himself by defeating Abdusattorov. It was his first and only loss of the event so far. Ian Nepomniachtchi finished second in Group A to secure his place in the Semifinals, while Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura finished first and second respectively in Group B to advance to the next stage. It will be Abdusattorov vs Nakamura and Carlsen vs Nepomniachtchi in the Semifinals. Today is a rest day. Best of four Semifinals start tomorrow, Saturday 29th October at 3 p.m. GMT, 8:30 p.m. IST.
