Mani Bharathy dominates Visalakshi - Arunachalam 9th SCS Rating Open 2025

Mani Bharathy scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win Visalakshi - Arunachalam 9th SCS Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. Eight players scored 6.5/8 each. Out of them, CM R Shadhursshaan and FM P Maheshwaran were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹450000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. The four-day eight round Rating Open tournament was organized by Sivakasi Chess Sparklers and Mepco Schlenk Engineering College from 19th to 22nd June 2025 at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. Jing Fong Joash Chan (SGP), Ravi Krishna G, Vijay Rege and Stefanus Kf Phan (SGP) scored 7/9 each at 2nd SMU Chess Classic Rating 2025. Jing won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Top three remained undefeated. Ravi drew against Jing in Round 8. The total prize fund was Giftano gift cards worth SG$ 2600. The top three prizes were $250, $200 and $180 along with a trophy each. The six-day nine round rating tournament was organized by SMU Intellectual Sports at Singapore Management University School of Economics in Singapore from 16th to 21st June 2025. Women's World Cup 2025 Round 2.1: Vantika Agrawal stuns Anna Ushenina

IM Vantika Agrawal scored a huge win over the 14th Women's World Champion, GM Anna Ushenina (UKR) in Game 1 of Round 2 at FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. GM Koneru Humpy, GM R Vaishali and IM Divya Deshmukh won their respective games comfortably against WIM FI Afruza Khamdamova (UZB), WGM Maili-Jade Ouellet (CAN) and WFM Kesaria Mgeladze (GEO). WGM Nandhidhaa P V, IM Padmini Rout and WIM Priyanka K drew against GM Harika Dronavalli, 12th Women's World Champion - GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) and IM Klaudia Kulon (POL) respectively. IM Meruert Kamalidenova (KAZ) scored the biggest upset of the round when she defeated the defending champion, GM Aleksandra Goryachkina. Rupam Mukherjee dominates 1st KCI Rating Open 2025 with a perfect 10/10

Rupam Mukherjee scored a perfect 10/10 to win 1st KCI Rating Open 2025. He finished one and a half point ahead of the field. 13-year-old, Arhashirsha Biswas scored an impressive 8.5/10 to secure second place. Four players - Satyam Prakash, WCM Rajanya Datta, Soham Saha and Khushal Bagri scored 8/10 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Rupam defeated both podium finishers. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹16000 and ₹14000 along with a trophy each. The six-day ten round rating tournament was organized by Kolkata Chess Institute at Dwijakanan Modern and Central Hall, Birati in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal from 14th to 19th June 2025. This is Rupam's second overall, first rating tournament triumph of the year.

Anirudhha Potawad amazing at 1st Pinnacle Rapid Rating Open 2025

FM Anirudhha Potawad scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Pinnacle Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh and IM Nikhil Dixit scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively. Nikhil also remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The one-day Rapid rating tournament was organized by Pinnacle Chess Events at Korum Mall in Thane, Maharashtra on 15th June 2025. Women's World Cup 2025 Round 1 TB: Priyanka K wins thrilling tie-breaks against Gaal Zsoka

WIM Priyanka K defeated WGM Zsoka Gaal (HUN) in the tie-breaks to secure her place in the next round of FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. Priyanka started the day with a win in the first 15'+10" Rapid game. She lost the next one after hanging her rook. The next two 10'+10" Rapid games ended in draws. Although, Priyanka could have won the second game and finished the match. She won the next two 5'+3" Blitz games to win the match by 5-3 and set up a clash against IM Klaudia Kulon (POL) in Round 2. Aayiu Atindrya Shetty wins Munich Youth Under-12 Rating 2025

Aayiu Atindrya Shetty and Mustafobek Abdugofurov (UZB) scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win Munich Youth Under-12 Rating 2025 part of 3rd Munich Chess Festival. Aayiu won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Mustafobek secured second place. Bruno Dankic (GER), Vincent Paffrath (GER) and Oscar Chenhao Zhong (GER) scored 5/7 each. They were placed third, fourth and fifth according to tie-breaks. The prizes were cups for the top three finishers and best girl of each age group. IM Vantika Agrawal, IM Padmini Rout and WGM Nandhidhaa P V won their respective games to advance the second round of FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. Vantika and Nandhidhaa scored comfortable wins after their respective opponents, WFM Lala Shohradova (TKM) and WIM Anahi Ortiz Verdezoto (ECU) made one-move blunders. Padmini made a thematic sacrifice in the Sicilian Najdorf for the second consecutive game. This time she made it work with correct play. WIM Priyanka K won her must-win game against WGM Gaal Zsoka (HUN) to force tie-breaks. WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty is the sole Indian to get eliminated in the first round. FM Arun Kataria and Shaunak Badole scored 9/10 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the entire Nagpur Chess Festival was ₹451000. The top three prizes were ₹51000 + trophy, ₹31000 and ₹26000 each. Women's World Cup 2025 Round 1.1: Padmini and Nandhidhaa make a winning start

IM Padmini Rout and WGM Nandhidhaa P V made a winning start at FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. In the first game of Round 1, Padmini made a good start by making a thematic knight sacrifice against Lanlin Zhang (CHN). However, she did not follow through correctly and lost an exchange. Later, her opponent misplayed allowing her to not only get back the exchange but arrive at a winning position. Nandhidhaa made a good recovery after a difficult start against WIM Anahi Ortiz Verdezoto (ECU). WFM Lala Shohradova (TKM) held IM Vantika Agrawal to a solid draw. WIM Priyanka K had a firm grip of the position against WGM Gaal Zsoka (HUN). However, she let her advantage slip, blundered, allowing her opponent to win the game. Magnus Carlsen wins SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz 2025 with a round to spare, Gukesh third

Magnus Carlsen drew against R Praggnanandhaa in the penultimate round to win Grand Chess Tour SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz 2025 with one round to go. The World no.1 defeated Ivan Saric (CRO) in the final round to finish with 22.5/36. Wesley So (USA) secured second place 20/36. He scored a half point more 5.5/9 than the champion on the final day of Blitz. The World Champion, D Gukesh recovered well and scored 4/9 in the second half of Blitz to finish third with 19.5/36. Carlsen forced a Berlin draw against Gukesh in their Blitz rematch. The fourth event of the season will be Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz which will take place at Saint Louis Chess Club in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA from 10th to 16th August. What makes someone leave a job at Facebook and start a chess academy from scratch? After working in top companies for almost 15 years, Renjith Balakrishnan decided to build something of his own, not just for himself, but for the community he came from. His simple gesture to help his relative slowly grew into Premier Chess Academy - an organization that now supports over 150 people. To create a vibrant chess ecosystem, the academy has grown beyond just online teaching. Today, it also organizes large-scale tournaments, including events with good prize funds.
