GM Denis Lazavik defeated Chongsheng Zeng (CHN) to end his unbeaten streak in the penultimate round of 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2025 Masters. GM Arkadij Naiditsch (BUL) got the better of GM Haowen Xue (CHN). GM Aditya Mittal played ambitiously and scored a victory over compatriot, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H. Denis, Aditya and Arkadij are now in a three way lead at 6.5/8 each. Denis and Arkadij will clash, Aditya will be up against the two-time Asian Junior champion, GM Aleksey Grebnev who is at 6/8. IM Mayank Chakraborty missed a great opportunity to win against GM Iniyan Pa. Iniyan and GM Prraneeth Vuppala are at 6/8 each. Round 9 starts today at 11 a.m. local time, 12:30 p.m. IST. Nitin S prevails at 1st Vimana City's Rating Open 2025

IM Nitin S scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Vimana City's Rating Open 2025. Nitin finished a half point ahead of the rest. Half a dozen players - IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Sham R, Vakeesh S, Ebin Benny, Mohammad Tharig S and Sreerag Padman scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Nitin defeated both runners-up Balasubramaniam and Sham in seventh and eighth round respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1100001. Top three prizes were ₹100001, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each. This was Nitin's first rating tournament triumph of the year.

Mayank perfect at 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Academy Blitz 2025, Imran second and Goutham third

IM Mayank Chakraborty scored a perfect 9/9 to win 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Academy (Under-18) Blitz 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. IM Md. Imran, IM Goutham Krishna H and IM Henry Edward Tudor (ROU) scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund was US$ 4250. The top three prizes were $500, $400 and $300 along with a trophy each. IM Akshay Borgaonkar, FM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy and IM Shahil Dey scored 7/9 each. Sinquefield Cup: Duda and Gukesh play a thrilling draw

The fifth round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2025 witnessed five draws. However, it featured quite possibly the most exciting game of the tournament so far. FIDE World Cup 2021 winner, Jan-Krzysztof Duda (POL) played an exciting game against the reigning World Champion, D Gukesh. Duda had some winning chances, though they were not easy to find. Eventually, the game ended in a draw via repetition. All games ending in draws meant that the standings remains unchanged. Fabiano Caruana (USA) is still the sole leader 3.5/5, followed by Levon Aronian (USA) and R Praggnanandhaa at 3/5 each. Today is the sole rest day. Mithilesh Ranjithkumar scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Under-16 Juniors Rating 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition Four players - Mahammad Baghirov (AZE), Tigran Agh. Petrosyan (ARM), Alkey Amangeldinov (KAZ) and Arnav Gupta scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Mithilesh drew with the eventual runner-up Baghirov and defeated the second runner-up, Petrosyan. Total prize fund was US$ 13050. The top three prizes were $2000, $1500 and $1200 along with a trophy each. Hari Vardan Satheeskumar, Vishruth B and Shitiz Prasad scored 7/9 each to secure sixth, seventh and eighth place respectively. Cheniram Pegu (Dibrugarh) scored 8/9 to win 48th All Assam Inter-District Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - Santanu Borpatra Gohain (Sivasagar), Iftikar Alom Mazumder (Cachar), Madhab Sarma (Darrang), Tanmay Rajbongshi (Guwahati) and Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur (Jorhat) scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to sixth place respectively, according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹150000. Top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. Debarati Dey (Cachar) scored an unbeaten 4.5/5 to became champion in the Women's tournament. The top three prizes were ₹3000, ₹2500 and ₹2000 with a trophy each. GM Chongsheng Zeng (CHN) drew against GM Arkadij Naiditsch (BUL) in Round 7 of 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2025 Masters. Thus, Chongsheng is still the sole leader 6/7. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM Aditya Mittal drew their respective games against GM Denis Lazavik and GM Bartosz Socko (POL) to stay in the hunt. IM Mayank Chakraborty defeated his second consecutive GM of the event. This time it was against Poland's latest GM Jakub Seemann. Mayank pushed his passed pawn at the right time which made the crucial difference. Mayank joined Aditya and Bharath in the pursuit at 5.5/7 each, trailing the leader by a half point. Sinquefield Cup: Caruana emerges sole leader, MVL misses again

Fabiano Caruana defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) to emerge sole leader at Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup. Abdusattorov's ambitious approach of opposite side castling, followed by a knight sacrifice to launch an attack on his opponent's kingside did not work out. It ended causing him his third loss in four games. Caruana is currently the only player at 3/4. He is closely followed by Levon Aronian (USA) and R Praggnanandhaa at 2.5/4 each. The only other player who had a chance to win his game was, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). C R G Krishna wins 21st Chefchaouen Open 2025, Diptayan second and Bala Chandra Prasad third

IM C R G Krishna, GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Bala Chandra Prasad Dhulipalla scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 21st Chefchaouen International Chess Festival Rating Open 2025. C R G Krishna won the tournament due to better tie-break scores, Diptayan and Bala Chandra secured second and third place respectively. The champion C R G drew with the eventual runner-up, Diptayan in the fourth round. Top three prizes were MAD 16000, 12000 and 10000 along with a trophy each. Fourth position was also claimed by an Indian, one of the latest GMs of India - Harikrishnan A Ra. He scored 7/9. Diptayan won the Blitz Open scoring an unbeaten 10/11. GM Chongsheng Zeng (CHN) drew his game against fellow compatriot GM Haowen Xue (CHN) in Round 6 of 31st Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2025 Masters. The quick 17-move draw resulted in Chongsheng maintaining his sole lead 5.5/6. GM Aditya Mittal and GM Bharath Subramaniyam H defeated GM Iniyan Pa and GM Prraneeth Vuppala to move to 5/6 each. They are the only two Indians among half a dozen pursuers. IM Mayank Chakraborty and IM Anuj Shrivatri defeated GM Adham Fawzy (EGY) and GM Brewington Hardaway (USA) respectively. Fabiano Caruana scored the sole win in the third round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2025. He defeated Alireza Firouzja (FRA) smoothly to move to 2/3. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) had a great opportunity to win against Levon Aronian (USA). However, he missed it and the game ended in a draw. The World Champion, D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhhaa drew against Sam Sevian (USA) and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) respectively. One of the latest IMs of India, Vignesh Advaith Vemula scored a big win over GM Yunguo Wan (CHN) in Round 5 of 31st Abu Dhabi Masters. GM Chongsheng Zeng (CHN) emerged sole leader 5/5, after he defeated IM Artiom Stribuk. GM Aditya Mittal held the top seed, GM Sanan Sjugirov (HUN) to a draw. GM Iniyan Pa capitalized on GM Titas Stremavicius' (LTU) blunder in the queen, rook and knight endgame. IM Akshay Borganokar, IM Mayank Chakraborty, IM Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and IM Kushagra Mohan split the point with GM Jingyao Tin (SGP), GM Denis Makhnev (KAZ), GM Srihari L R and GM Karthik Venkataraman respectively. The World Champion, D Gukesh bounced back in the second round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2025. A new chapter added in the ever-growing rivalry between Gukesh and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). Their battles are always irrespective format and stake. This one was no different either. Gukesh used his preparation to get himself a better position out of the opening.
