Bangladesh Police shows no sign of slowing down as they scored their second whitewash in Round 7 of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. Bangladesh Navy suffered their third consecutive loss and fourth overall loss of the event. SAIF Sporting Club maintained their second position 10.0/12 as they beat Titas Club. Leon Luke Mendonca becomes unbeaten champion again at 2nd Kumania GM

GM Leon Luke Mendonca won his second tournament in consecutive months as he scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win 2nd Kumánia GM tournament. Last month Leon won Vezerkepzo IM Round-Robin. The 14-year-old had also won the first edition of Kumania Championship back in November 2020. Leon started the tournament with a draw then he registered four consecutive victories and four consecutive draws to finish with the same score as GM Milan Pacher. Bangladesh Premier League R6: Uttara Central holds SAIF Sporting to a draw

SAIF Sporting Club was once again held to 2-2 draw in Round 6 of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. This time it was Uttara Central Chess Club who caused the upset. While Adhiban and Kovalev scored victories for SAIF Sporting, Mitrabha and Koustav scored important wins for Uttara Central to split the match point. Bangladesh Police continued their lead 12.0/12 at the top as they beat Shahin Chess Club 2.5-1.5. Titas Club moved up to the third position with a victory over Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society. Capablanca Chess School presents 5th Anniversary Celebration Online Blitz Open for players all across the world. They have organized 25 chess tournaments since they were founded in 2016. The tournament will take place on Saturday 3rd of April at 8 p.m. IST in ChessBase India webroom on Playchess. Entry is FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. For everyone else Entry fee is ₹200 for Indians and €3 for foreigners. Bangladesh Premier League R5: SAIF Sporting Club survives a scare against Leonin Chess Club

Leonin Chess Club surprised SAIF Sporting Club to a 2-2 draw in Round 5 of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. IM Aronyak held GM Adhiban to a draw and CM Shawket defeated GM Reefat. Subhayan missed a draw against GM Kovalev which would have then allowed Leonin Chess Club to score an upset victory. Meanwhile Bangladesh Police scored a victory by minimum margin over Bangladesh Biman as GM Gukesh beat GM Ganguly. Iniyan wins Silver at the 1st FIDE World University Online Individual Blitz Championship

India's 61st GM Iniyan P of Bharathiyar University started out as the highest rated Indian among 960 university students from 78 counries all across the world in 1st FIDE World University Online Individual Blitz Championship. He finished at the top of his group, Group A with 8.5/10. In the Finals, he started the Round-Robin event with a loss against GM Yinglun Xu but then he scored 5.5/6 in the remaining six games to finish tied first with the eventual Gold medal winner GM Haik Martirosyan of Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture. Iniyan was placed second according to the tie-breaks. There is no change at the top of the table as Bangladesh Police maintained their sole lead with 8.0/8 at the conclusion of Round 4 in Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. They beat Titas Club by 3.5-0.5. GM Raunak Sadhwani scored a fantastic victory over IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad. SAIF Chess Club picked up a 3-1 victory to regain their second place at the table with 6.0/6. COB All Stars Day 1: Vaibhav Sethia and Samay Raina show high class chess

Comedians on Board (COB) All Stars event has begun with 8 strong stand-up comedians facing off each other in a Round Robin format. The top two players will play the finals. The total prize fund of the event is Rs.10 lakh with the winner taking home Rs.3 lakh. Joel D'souza, the winner of Comedians on Board III is the favourite to win the event. Giving him a strong challenge are Samay Raina, Biswa Kalyan Rath and Vaibhav Sethia. On day one we had an amazing match between Samay Raina and Vaibhav Sethia. Chess as a sport either exist as a co-curricular activity or as one of the sports offered in many school and college all across the country, part of a games class. Very few educational institute has chess as mandatory academic subject but even then it is mostly restricted to certain classes in the school. However Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences Bhubaneswar made a historic decision to implement chess as a part of curriculum for over 60000 students which is unprecedented. Bangladesh Navy jumped to the shared second position by beating Titas Club. They joined SAIF Sporting Club who had a rest day. GM Gukesh D scored an important victory for his Bangladesh Biman as he decimated his opponent CM Sohel Chowdhury with a brilliant display of attack. Anish Giri deservedly wins Magnus Invitational

2021 seems to be Giri's year as he beat Nepomniachtchi in the finals to win Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Giri dominated Tata Steel Chess 2021 and the same can be said for the Magnus Invitational. After all, he was the first person to beat Carlsen in two consecutive editions of Magnus Invitational. Yes Nepomniachtchi beat Carlsen in the Semi-Finals but it was Giri who had the last laugh. With Candidates less than a month away, there is a good chance that Giri would continue his momentum there. IM Aronyak Ghosh of Leonin Chess Club scored the sole half point for his team as he held GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly of Bangladesh Police to a draw in Round 2 of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. SAIF Sporting Club scored 0-4 whitewash victory over Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society. Both Bangladesh Police and SAIF Sporting Club are in shared lead with 4.0/4 at the conclusion of Round 2. Giri or Nepomniachtchi - Who will win the Magnus Invitational?

Giri started with a determination to beat Nepomniachtchi in the very first game but it ended up in a draw in the Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. The next three games also ended up in draws. Giri will obviously look for a way to avenge his prelims loss and get an edge heading into the Candidates next month. Carlsen was quite determined to avenge his loss against So and that's exactly what he did as he won the first set by 3-1. Titas Club Chess Team scored a big upset by winning against Bangladesh Biman 2.5-1.5. Magnus Invitational SF Day 2: World Champions Carlsen and So get eliminated

FIDE Candidates will resume next month, however we are going to get a sneak peek at the Finals as Giri and Nepomniachtchi eliminated World Champions So and Carlsen from Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Carlsen's unlucky 30 curse continues as he is still yet to win a tournament since he turned 30 last November.
