MPL National Junior 2022 R5-6: Priyanka Nutakki and Bhagyashree Patil share the lead

Utsab Chatterjee (WB), IM Neelash Saha (WB), IM Koustav Chatterjee (WB) and FM Ayush Sharma (MP) are the four leaders at MPL 50th National Junior Chess Championship 2022 Open. The sole leader after the fifth round, Utsab drew his sixth round game against IM Harshavardhan G B (TN). It allowed Koustav, Neelash and Ayush to catch up by winning their respective games. In the Girls event, top seed WGM Priyanka Nutakki (AP) beat WFM Lakshmi C (TN) in an exciting encounter in the sixth round to ascend to the top. Belgrade GP SF TB: Andreikin eliminates Giri

Anish Giri drew the first game with the black pieces against Dmitry Andreikin. In the second game of the Semifinal tie-breaks, Giri got himself a completely winning position but he squandered it. In a relatively equal position, he made a desperate sacrifice in an attempt to get something. The World Cup 2013 runner-up, did not miss his opportunity and won the game. Dmitry Andreikin will face Richard Rapport in the Finals. Giri has only the last leg, Berlin GP left to find his place in the FIDE Candidates 2022. Finals start today from 7:30 p.m. IST. Vishwa Vasnawala becomes the latest Woman International Master of India

Vishwa Vasnawala scored her final WIM-norm at IM Ask 7 in Aranđelovac, Serbia on 5th March 2022. She scored 6.0/9, performed at 2351 to become India's latest Woman International Master. She scored her first WIM-norm at First Saturday IM May 2019. The second and third WIM-norms were scored in consecutive tournaments IM Ask 6 and 7 within a span of 13 days. Check out her games from the events where she made her norms along with a few best games annotated by her. After Dhyani Dave and Tejaswini Sagar, Vishwa became the third WIM of Gujarat. Her live rating 2314.6 also makes her the highest rated female chess player of her state.

Bangladesh Premier League 2022 R1: Harsha Bharathakoti slays the infallible Arjun Erigaisi

Defending champion Bangladesh Police won their first match with a minimum margin 2.5-1.5 over Manha's Castle at Golden Jubilee of Independence Premier Division Chess League 2021-22. Harsha Bharathakoti answered the perennial question of who will beat Arjun Erigaisi for the first time in Classical chess in 2022. The new National Senior Open champion is riding high on his momentum since summer 2021. The last time Arjun lost a Classical game was against Abhimanyu Puranik at Sitges on 22nd December. MPL National Junior 2022 R3-4: Top seeds become the prime target

Top seeds in both MPL 50th National Junior Open and 35th National Sub-Junior Girls Chess Championships were held to draws in Round 3 and 4. Rohit S (TN) denied GM Iniyan P (TN) his fourth consecutive win. GM Arjun Kalyan (TN) drew both of his third and fourth round games. Five players - IM Pranesh M (TN), Hari Madhavan N B (TN), Utsab Chatterjee (WB), FM Rohith Krishna S (WB) and FM Ayush Sharma (MP) are at 4.0/4 each. Belgrade GP SF2: Richard Rapport advances to the Finals

Richard Rapport drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the second game to advance to the finals of FIDE Belgrade Grand Prix 2022. Although at one point it seemed like MVL had a substantial advantage, as he in the post-match interview, there were a lot of lines to calculate and it was certainly not easy to find the correct way to convert it into a full point. MPL National Junior 2022 R1-2: 103rd seed Yashasva draws with IM Raahul

Top seeds had a relatively smooth start in MPL 50th National Junior Open and 35th National Sub-Junior Girls Chess Championships. There were no big upsets on the first day. 103rd seed Yashasva Anil Kanholkar (CHT) got himself a winning position against third seed IM Raahul V S (TN). However, the reigning Asian Junior champion, somehow managed to salvage a draw. In the Girls event, Sachi Jain (DEL) was completely winning against third seed WFM Bhagyashree Patil (MAH) but she could not make the most out of it. Belgrade GP SF1: Rapport beats MVL

Richard Rapport defeated the reigning World Blitz champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave convincingly in the first game of the FIDE Belgrade GP 2022 Semifinal. He just needs a draw to advance to the Semifinals. Since this is MVL's final gateway to the Candidates 2022, one can easily expect him to fight back ferociously. Meanwhile, Anish Giri wanted to make the most out of his white pieces against Dmitry Andreikin. 1st Guwahati International GM Open starts in four days

Guwahati, Assam and North East India will be the host to the biggest international GM Open tournament in the region starting this Sunday 13th March. Press Conference for the 1st Guwahati International GM Open tournament 2022 was held yesterday 8th March at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Sarusajai). The tournament will take place from 13th to 20th March at DTRP Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. Total prize fund of the tournament is ₹1500000. Top three prizes are - ₹251000, ₹201000 and ₹150000 each. Total 51 prizes are up for grabs. 207 players from 11 countries across the world have already registered for this event. Narayanan S L wins 1st Grandiscacchi Cattolica International, Pragg second

GM Narayanan S L has been consistent with his performance since the beginning of  Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. He had several podium finishes in both online and over-the-board events. However, on 8th March 2022, he won his first otb tournament since December 2019 triumph at 1st Elllobregat Open. Seven players scored 6.5/9 at 1st Grandiscacchi Cattolica International. Narayanan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Praggnanandhaa secured second position. IM Pranav Anand was the only other Indian and sole IM to finish among top ten. The total prize fund was €12600. Top three prizes were €3000, €2000 and €1500 cash respectively.

Pranesh and Tanisha clinch MPL National Sub-Junior Open and Girls Chess Championship 2022

IM Pranesh M (TN) and Tanisha S Boramanikar (MAH) won MPL 47th National Sub-Junior Open and 36th National Sub-Junior Girls Chess Championship 2022. Pranesh broke out of the pack in the seventh round, took sole lead and finished a half point ahead 7.5/9 of the field in the end. Tanisha got into sole lead after her sixth round victory and maintained it till the very end 7.5/9. Both champions faced the remaining podium finishers. Pranesh won the National Sub-Junior for the second consecutive year. Tanisha won her maiden National Sub-Junior Girls title. The total prize fund was ₹450000. The strongest tournament on Indian soil - Inter-Unit PSPB championships 2022 is taking place in Mumbai from the 7th to the 11th of March 2022. Some of the best names in Indian chess are playing here - Sasikiran, Adhiban, Ganguly, Humpy, Karthikeyan, Surya Ganguly and many more. Three teams like always are the favourites to win the title - Indian Oil, ONGC and BPCL. There has already been a lot of action in the first four rounds, and in the 5th round it's the match between ONGC and Indian Oil, that will decide who the will win this 31st edition of inter-until PSPB meet. Kaustuv Kundu wins 1st Chandrashekhar Azad Memorial All India Rapid Rating Open

Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 1st Chandrashekhar Azad Memorial All India Rapid Rating Open. Kaustuv was 6.5/7 heading into the final round. A draw would have sufficed to win the tournament, yet he went for a win to finish a half point ahead of the field. Sanjeev Mishra scored 7.0/8 to secure second place. Four players - Maulik Raval, Shantanu Bhambure, Prakash Yadavn and Mandar Mohan Sane scored 6.5/8 each. They were placed third to sixth according to tie-breaks. Belgrade GP R6: Andreikin, Giri, Rapport and MVL advance to the Semifinals

Dmitry Andreikin persevered a completely lost endgame against Etienne Bacrot. The France no.3's blunder allowed Andreikin to win Pool A and advance to the Semifinals of FIDE Belgrade Grand Prix 2022. Anish Giri, Richard Rapport and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave drew their games to win Pool B, C and D respectively and secure their place in the Knockout stage. Since no Playoffs are required, today becomes a rest day. It will be Giri vs Andreikin and Rapport vs Vachier-Lagrave in the Semifinals. IM Pranesh M (TN) emerged as the sole leader at MPL 46th National Sub-Junior Open Chess Championship 2022. He drew with IM Pranav V (TN) in the sixth round and defeated FM Harshad S (TN) in the seventh. Pranav suffered his first loss of the event against Mahendra Teja Mekala (AP). Mahendra is now a half point behind 6.0/7, the leader Pranesh 6.5/7. In the Girls event, Tanisha Boramanikar (MAH) in the new sole leader 6.5/7 as she won both of her games against Vakcheri Mohitha (AP) and Kanishka S (TN).
