FIDE Ethics imposes a six-month ban on Karjakin
22/03/2022 - The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission has banned Sergey Karjakin 'from participating as a player in any FIDE rated chess competition' all over the world, starting from 21st March 2022. Karjakin's public comments on Russia's military invasion of Ukraine upset the majority of the chess fraternity and the entire world. The ban means Karjakin will not be able to play FIDE Candidates 2022 which is slated to take place in Madrid, Spain from 16th June to 5th July 2022. GM Sergey Shipov, a regular commentator, was not banned because, "In comparison with Sergey Karjakin, Sergei Shipov is considerably less known and has, therefore, a less powerful platform."
