Arjun Erigaisi defeated Raunak Sadhwani to get back in the lead at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. Arjun has not only joined Ray Robson (USA) in the lead 5/6 but also climbed to India no.4 and World no.29 in the live ratings. 13 players including three Indians, Karthikeyan Murali, Nihal Sarin and Sethuraman S P are in pursuit at 4.5/6 each. Indonesia no.1 woman, IM Irene Sukandar is having a phenomenal run. She defeated GM Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM) and moved to 4.5/6. Pranav Venkatesh becomes India's 75th Grandmaster

Pranav Venkatesh earned his maiden GM-norm at Serbia Masters 2021. He also became an International Master at the very same event. Almost a year later, he scored his second norm at Vezerkepzo GM June in Budapest, Hungary. He also crossed 2500 in the live ratings in the process. Needing only his final GM-norm, after Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters, his father decided to take him to 5th Limpedea Cup 2022 where he won the event and scored his final GM-norm. He became India's 75th GM on 7th August, a little over week before India completed its 75th year of Independence. Raunak Sadhwani dominates 28th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Blitz 2022

The recently concluded 44th Chess Olympiad Bronze medalist, GM Raunak Sadhwani continues his great form. He scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 28th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2022 Blitz Open. The 16-year-old finished a full point ahead of the field and he also had a full point lead heading into the last round. A draw was enough to win the tournament, and that is exactly what he did against the second runner-up, GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM). Raunak defeated the eventual runner-up, GM Adam Tukhaev (UKR) in the ninth round. The total prize fund of the Blitz Open was US$ 2700. Top 3 prizes were $1000, $700 and $500 each. Praggnanandhaa beats Magnus three times in-a-row, still Carlsen wins FTX Crypto Cup 2022

Praggnanandhaa did the unfathomable for many, beat the world champion in a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour final round that also a Major one. Sure, many people predicted and hoped for the 17-year-old's victory. Carlsen has won two Regular events in this season and this was his first Major event win. After two draws in the Rapid games, Carlsen won the third one and put Praggnanandhaa in a must-win situation. He not only won that but also won both Blitz tie-break games. Thus, the teenager won the final round of FTX Crypto Cup 2022, however, the world no.1 won the tournament as he was already ahead by two points. GM Ray Robson (USA) scored the sole win among the pack to emerge sole leader 4.5/5 at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. It was the sole decisive game among the top ten boards. GM Nihal Sarin defeated IM Artur Davtyan (ARM) to join the remaining pursuers at 4/5 each. Arjun Erigaisi and Raunak Sadhwani drew with Netherlands no.2  Jorden van Foreest and Egypt no.1 Bassem Amin respectively. Sandipan Chanda had a great opportunity in the endgame to beat the super solid Aryan Chopra. Olympiad Gold medalist, GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov's tough form continues as he made a narrow escape against IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete. Today is a rest day for the Classical tournament. Magnus Carlsen on the verge of winning the FTX Crypto Cup 2022

Magnus Carlsen and Praggnanandhaa both started Meltwater Champions Chess Tour FTX Crypto Cup Round 6 with a loss. They managed to force tie-breaks. Praggnanandhaa was completely winning the first Blitz tie-break game against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. However, missing a mate in one cost him the game. The Poland no.1 gave him no opportunity in the second game and scored a second straight win to claim the match. Meanwhile, Carlsen and Firouzja had their chances in the third game. The world champion won the first tie-break game and managed to draw the second to win the match. He will face Praggnanandhaa in the final round 7 which starts tonight at 9:30 p.m. IST. FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship is back with its second edition. The over-the-board final will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland, from 25th-30th October 2022. Arjun Erigaisi drew with Evgeny Tomashevsky in the fourth round of 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. Raunak Sadhwani defeated Indonesia no.1 woman, IM Irine Kharisma Sukandar to join the lead 3.5/4. GM Ray Robson (USA), GM Jorden van Foreest (NED) and GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (GER) are the remaining three leaders. One of the latest IMs of India, S Rohith Krishna defeated GM Shardul Gagare after the latter misplayed at a critical juncture. FTX Crypto Cup 2022 R5: Duda beats Carlsen four times in four hours

Lately, the world champion's biggest nemesis has been Jan-Krzysztof Duda. The Poland no.1 ended Carlsen's 125-game unbeaten streak in October 2020 in Norway. He also eliminated the world no.1 from the FIDE World Cup 2021 in the Semifinals. In the fifth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour FTX Crypto Cup, Duda started with two wins and put Carlsen in a tough situation. The world champion won the next two games to force tie-breaks. The Pole once again won consecutive Blitz tie-break games to beat Carlsen. World Blitz 2013 winner, Liem got his revenge against Praggnanandhaa by winning the match in the exact fashion he lost at Oslo Esports Cup, 2.5-0.5. Gukesh continues his meteoric rise, now World no.18

When 44th Chess Olympiad ended, GM D Gukesh won a Gold on Board no.1 ahead of Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Magnus Carlsen. He also won a team Bronze for the India 2 team. His world ranking at that time was 24 in live ratings. A week later, Gukesh started playing for Turkish Airlines Sports Club (THY) in Turkish Isbank Chess Super League. The 16-year-old won his first three games against GM Aryan Gholami, GM Andrey Esipenko and Turkey no.3 GM Vahap Sanal. All three were strong opponents, the Gukesh juggernaut continues. Arjun Erigaisi outplayed Serbia no.1 Aleksandar Indjic to emerge sole leader at 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. 26 players including 11 Indians are in pursuit at 2.5/3 each. IM Aditya Samant first drew with GM Nihal Sarin in Round 2 and then he defeated GM Abhijeet Gupta in the third round, after the latter made a simple miscalculation. IM Sammed Shete defeated GM Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM) with a masterful play in the endgame. He drew the next game against GM Sethuraman S P. Among the women, WIM Rucha Pujari and WIM Sakshi Chitlange picked up emphatic wins over IM Dushyant Sharma and IM Vardaan Nagpal respectively. FTX Crypto Cup 2022 R4: Praggnanandhaa scores a crushing victory over Aronian

Praggnanandhaa had beaten Aronian only once earlier this year. That changed yesterday when the 17-year-old defeated the two-time FIDE World Cup winner in consecutive games to win the match. The Armenian, now representing USA, had his chance in the second game which he was unable to capitalize on. He trapped his own queen in the first ten moves of the third game. The much experienced artist was unable to get a foothold in the fourth game and lost it too. Magnus Carlsen also had the exact score as Praggnanandhaa en route his victory over Liem Quang Le. 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022 R1: Sanket Chakravarty stuns Aditya Mittal

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival is finally back in its original form of Classical tournament. Last year in December, the 27th edition was a shortened one due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For the first time since 2019, the 28th Abu Dhabi Masters witnesses the participation of 148 players including 73 Indians making it almost 50% players are Indians. Arjun Erigaisi is the highest rated Indian in the field. 24 players are rated above 2600. 43 GMs, 35 IMs, 7 WGMs and 3 WIMs are taking part. The average rating of the tournament is 2396. That should give you an idea about the strength of the tournament. Sanket Chakravarty scored the biggest upset of the first round as he defeated IM Aditya Mittal. Praggnanandhaa started the third round with a loss against Hans Niemann. He beat USA's top junior in the second game, drew the next and won the fourth game again. Thus, he won the match 1.5-2.5 and scored 3 points again. The 17-year-old currently shares the lead with the world champion Magnus Carlsen who defeated Levon Aronian with the same score. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour FTX Crypto Cup 2022 witnessed the first Armageddon between Alireza Firouzja and Anish Giri. The Dutch no.1 missed his chances twice in two Rapid games, both with the black pieces, eventually his luck ran out as he could not draw the Armageddon to win the match.
