Carlsen, Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Humpy, Harika, Wenjun among the participants of FIDE World Cup 2023

The World no.1 Magnus Carlsen and the reigning Women's World Champion - Ju Wenjun have confirmed their participation at the upcoming FIDE World Cup and Women's World Cup 2023 respectively. The confirmed Indian players so far are - D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, S L Narayanan, B Adhiban, Harsha Bharathakoti, Karthik Venkataraman, Abhimanyu Puranik, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh, Nandhidhaa P V, Priyanka Nutakki and Mary Ann Gomes. More Indian players names might get announced by the end of this month. Whom do you wish to see who has not qualified yet? A total of 206 players in the Open and 103 in the Women's World Cup are slated to take part. The total prize fund is US$ 1834000 in the Open and $676250 in the Women, with the first being $110000 and $50000 is up for grabs. The total prize fund remains unchanged in Women, while in the Open it decreased by $58500. The 20% retention of each prize by FIDE has been removed from the Tournament Regulations. Photo: FIDE

Kartavya Anadkat dominates 1st Late Shri Dhiraj Singh Raghuvanshi Memorial Rating Open 2023

Kartavya Anadkat scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Late Dhiraj Singh Raghuvanshi Memorial Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Five players - Ram Prakash, Arpan Das, IM Chakravarthi Reddy M, Daksh Goyal and Raj Kapoor scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1100000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹70000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Kartavya's second tournament triumph, first open rating tournament victory of the year. The last rating tournament the reigning Gujarat State Blitz champion won was in November 2022. Sailesh R clinches 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2023

Sailesh R (TN) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - Sriram Adarsh Uppala (TEL), Nikhil M (AP), Umashankar A (PUD) and Arnav Mahesh Koli (MAH) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹110000, ₹95000 and ₹85000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Sailesh's fifth tournament triumph of the year, first open rating tournament victory of his career. The only other rating tournament he won was a Below 1600 event on 1st January 2020. Indrajeet Mahindrakar scored 8.5/9 to win Bhim Bahadur Tamang Memorial 5th Dolakha Rating Open 2023. He remained undefeated and finished a full point ahead of the competition. Vedant Nagarkatte scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. Three players - Mohit Kumar Soni, Y Dhanabir Singh and Soram Rahul Singh scored 7/9. They were placed third, fourth and fifth according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were NRs. 100000, 60000 and 40000 along with a trophy each respectively. Indrajeet won approx. ₹62490. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League teams and squads unveiled

Tech Mahindra Global Chess League starts in seven days from today. It will be a six-team double round-robin event. Six members will play in each team comprising an icon, two male, two female and one prodigy in each round. Vishy Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Ian Nepomniachtchi are the 'Icons' who will take part in this event. There will be 26 'Superstars' and six 'Prodigies' who will also be part of the inaugural edition. The six franchise teams are - Balan Alaskan Knights, Chingari Gulf Titans, Ganges Grandmasters, SG Alpine Warriors, Triveni Continental Kings and Upgrad Mumba Masters. Draw of Lots is on 21st June and first match will take place on Thursday 22nd June 2023. Which team do you think will win? The ASEAN+ Age Group is back after 3 years

The ASEAN Age Group Championships is an extremely important event for young kids living in the ASEAN countries. They include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar. Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timur Leste. However, if you look at the name carefully, it says ASEAN+ and the + indicates that more countries are welcome at the championships that will be held in 14 age groups from the 17th to the 27th of June 2023, in Bangkok, Thailand - China, India, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea. Along with this tournament there is also an ACC-ECU symposium which will witness the presence of Artur Yusupov, Zurab Azmaiparashvili and many other famous names.

A visit to God's Own Country

Earlier this year from the 30th of March to 4th of April 2023, the Capablanca Chess Festival was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. While we covered the event extensively and had several videos posted on our YouTube channel and Facebook page, there was something that Aditya Sur Roy wanted to share. It was his experience of visiting the God's own country and the various experiences he had while covering the event. Shayan Noushad Ibrahim clinches Gold at World Cadet Rapid U-8 Open, Bronze for Sharvaanica among Girls

Muhammad Shayan Noushad Ibrahim scored 10/11 to clinch Gold at World Cadet Rapid Under-8 Open. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Louis Cheng (SCO) scored 8.5/11 to secure Silver. Nhat Khuong Nguyen (VIE) and Timofey Dm Babkin scored 8/11 each. Nhat won Bronze medal due to better tie-breaks. Sharvaanica A S scored 8/11 to secure a Bronze medal in Under-8 Girls Rapid. Top seed Bodhana Sivanandan (ENG) scored a perfect 11/11 to win Gold. Mumtozbegim Sobirova (UZB) edged past Sharvaanica on tie-breaks to claim Silver medal. Sharvaanica finished fourth in the Under-8 Girls Blitz event scoring 7/11. Harikrishna wins French Top 16 for Asnières le Grand Échiquier

India no.4 and World no.32 Pentala Harikrishna won French Top 16 Club Championship for Asnières le Grand Échiquier. This was the first time in history the team became champion at this event. His teammates were - World Blitz 2021 champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Andrey Esipenko, Grigoriy Oparin, Jules Moussard, Yannick Pelletier, Matthieu Cornette, Pauline Guichard, Kirill Alekseenko, Jean-Marc Degraeve, Sergei Movsesian and Yosha Iglesias. Bischwiller also scored the same 29 points, however, Asnières le Grand Échiquier won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. They remained undefeated at this event and currently unbeaten for 62nd matches. C'Chartres secured their first-ever podium finish. Harshad and Harikrishnan triumph at 1st Kanyakumari Parents Forum Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2023

FM Harshad S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Kanyakumari Parents Forum Rapid Rating Open 2023. The reigning Western Asia Rapid and Blitz U-18 Open double Gold medalist finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Rathanvel V S and Aswath S secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. In the Blitz event, IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra edged past the Rapid event winner, Harshad to become the champion. Harshad secured place 8.5/9. Aswath once again was placed third with the same score 8/9. The total prize fund combining both events was ₹300000, ₹200000 for Rapid and ₹100000 for Blitz. The top three prizes in Rapid were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000, for Blitz it was ₹15000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 each respectively. This was Harikrishnan's fourth rating tournament triumph of 2023.

Divya Deshmukh Golden, Silver for Mary Ann Gomes at Asian Continental Women 2023

IM Divya Deshmukh drew against WIM Xeniya Balabayeva (KAZ) in the final round to clinch the Gold at Asian Continental Women 2023. Divya scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the competition. WGM Mary Ann Gomes edged past IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL) on tie-breaks to secure the Silver medal, Munguntuul got Bronze. Divya won two medals in two consecutive Asian Continental Women events. In 2022, she won Gold in Blitz and Bronze in Classical, now Gold in Classical and Silver in Blitz. Mary also won a medal each in consecutive Asian events - Silver in Blitz last year and now Silver in Classical. Mary and GM Abhimanyu Puranik qualifies to their respective FIDE World Cup starting next month. Grandmaster Chess Training Festival at Udaipur by Kingdom of Chess

Kingdom of Chess organized a Grandmaster Training Camp in Udaipur, Rajasthan last month. GM Debashis Das and the founder of the academy, Chandrajeet Rajawat provided the main guidance. It also featured experienced trainers of the state - Gautam Kataria, Dhruv Dak and Naman Porwal. The objective of the camp was to strengthen the state's top youngsters and get them ready for their upcoming events. It was a residential camp where both trainers and students resided on campus, consumed healthy food, followed a strict routine and stayed away from any kind of electronic gadgets. S Rohith Krishna aces 2nd Maharashtra GM Open 2023

IM S Rohith Krishna drew his final round game against GM Aleksej Aleksandrov to win 2nd Maharashtra GM Open 2023. The teenager won his third consecutive tournament after winning 19th Malakoff Open 2023 in France and Ostravský Koník Open A in Czech Republic. He won a tournament each in April, May and now June. The boy from Tamil Nadu scored 9/11 and finished a full point ahead of the competition. Six players - GM Laxman R R, IM Raahul V S, GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, IM Viani Antonio Dcunha, IM Kushagra Mohan and IM Neelash Saha scored 8/11 each. They were placed second to seventh respectively according to tie-breaks. The two-time reigning National Under-17 Open champion, CM Mayank Chakraborty earned his maiden GM and IM-norms. Rounak Pathak wins Elegant 36th Below 1850 Rating Tournament 2023

Rounak Pathak scored a perfect 5/5 to win 36th Elegant Below 1850 Rating Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Shuvam Roy and Subhabrata Roy scored 4.5/5 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was Tk 35000. The top three prizes were Tk 6000, 4000 and 3000 each respectively. This was Rounak's first rating tournament triumph. The two-day five-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by and at Elegant International Chess Academy on 12th and 13th May 2023.
