Che International Chess Festival 2023: Kerala wins against Cuba 42.5 - 37.5

Kerala won the friendly match against Cuba 42.5-37.5 at Che International Chess Festival 2023. Kerala won it with one Blitz match to spare. GM S L Narayanan is the top scorer of the match 14.5 points, closely followed by IM Jubin Jimmy 14 points. GM Elier Miranda Mesa (CUB) and GM Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason (CUB) scored 12 and 11.5 points each. It was a closely fought battle and Cubans were the favorites as they had two Grandmasters and overall much stronger players in terms of experience and strength. However, the younger team Kerala prevailed. The match was not about wins, losses or scores. It was more about the friendship and harmony between Kerala and Cuba. Photos: Shahid Ahmed

FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2023: Information for players

FIDE World Rapid and Blitz championship 2023 will take place from 26th to 30th December in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. All details regarding the tournament is available now. Apart from being the reigning National champion in Classical, Rapid or Blitz format, players rated at least 2550 in Open and 2250 in Women in any of the last twelve FIDE Rating list in Classical, Rapid or Blitz, are eligible to participate. FIDE President can nominate ten players and organizers are entitled to invite up to ten players in each Open and Women section as per their choice. Last date for regsitration is 1st December 2023. Total prize fund is US$ 350000 in both Open section of Rapid and Blitz, the top three prizes are US$ 60000, 50000 and 40000 each. The total prize fund in Women are US$ 150000 each in Rapid and Blitz. Sarayu, Sahithi and Mrittika get the Sarada Scholarship of Rs.10 lakh

A kind gentleman who lives in Bangalore approached us with a proposal to support young and talented girl chess players of India. His proposition - he wanted to institute a scholarship in the name of his mother Sarada. He wanted the amount of Rs.10 lakh to be used in the best possible way for young Indian girl chess players. This is the reason why we came up with Sarada Scholarship via HelpChess Foundation where the amount of Rs.10 lakh is distributed among three extremely talented young girls of Indian chess - Sarayu Velpula (Rs.5 lakh), Sahithi Varshini (Rs.2.5 lakh) and Mrittika Mallick (Rs.2.5 lakh). This amount is going to be an invaluable contribution in the journey of these young talents.

12-year-old Akhil Anand's HEart of Math

He is able to combine his passion for both Art and Math together by seeing math patterns in a lot of things around him. Meet Akhil and through this article get a glimpse into his world. The Big Chess Winter Camp is here from 20th-26th November!

The ChessBase India Chess Club at Mumbai is back with another big event. Following the success of the Big Chess Summer Camp this May which saw the participation of 700 chess players, this November we are having the Big Chess Winter Camp! With 50 training sheets, 3 Head trainers, a number of volunteers, and most importantly - a huge number of people from various age groups, cultures, and societies eager to dive deep into the magical world of Chess, we ensure you this will be a grand experience! The Camp will take place from 20th-26th November from 4-8 PM each day at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Mumbai. Ayush Sharma dominates 1st Scindia Cup Rapid Rating Open 2023

Madhya Pradesh's very own, IM Ayush Sharma scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Scindia Cup Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Harish Sharma, CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut and Kamad Mishra scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Harish and Vaibhav remained undefeated. Vaibhav was the sole person to hold Ayush to a draw in the penultimate eighth round. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹350000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹25000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. World Amateur 2023: Kartavya Anadkat and Sham R secure Silver, Bronze for Velavaa Ragavesh

FM Abilmansur Abdilkhair (KAZ) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Gold at World Amateur Championship in Under-2300 Open category. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. Kartavya Anadkat and FM Marko Fadi (EGY) scored 7/9 each. Kartavya won Silver and Marko Bronze according to tie-breaks. Amarsaikhan Dashtogtokh (MGL) clinched Gold with a perfect 9/9 in Under-2000 Open. Sham R scored 7.5/9 to secure Silver. Velavaa Ragavesh edged past seven more players on tie-breaks to win Bronze medal scoring 6.5/9. The total prize fund of the tournament was €15000. The top three prizes in U2300 Open were €2000, €1500 and €1000 along with a cup and medal each. Kerala vs Cuba, Nihal vs Praggnanandhaa set to take place at Che International Chess Festival 2023

Government of Kerala is organizing Che International Chess Festival at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala from 16th to 20th November. There will be simultaneous exhibition matches, young talents tournament, Kerala vs Cuba team match in all three formats, chess training sessions by IM V Saravanan and GM FST R B Ramesh and the main attraction will be India no.3, GM R Praggnanandhaa vs India no.7, GM Nihal Sarin. They will play ten Blitz games on Monday 20th November 2023. Cuban team members are: GM Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason, GM Elier Miranda Mesa, IM Rodney Oscar Perez Garcia and WGM Lisandra Ordaz Valdes. Kerala team members are: GM S L Narayanan, IM Jubin Jimmy, FM Goutham Krishna H and WIM Nimmy A G.

The All India Chess Federation announces Rs.2 crore (US$240,459) assistance to Vidit, Pragg and Vaishali

FIDE Candidates tournament will be held in April 2024 in Canada. Leading up to this all-important event that will determine the World Championship challenger, the AICF has announced a financial assistance to Vidit Gujrathi, R. Praggnanandhaa and R.Vaishali to the tune of Rs.2 crore (US$240,459). This amount will be divided between the three of them and will be used for their training, travel, building a team and much more. It is truly a fantastic move by the National federation to support the Candidates of India!

"It's the biggest win of my career" - Vidit Gujrathi on winning FIDE Grand Swiss 2023

At the age of 29 years, Vidit Gujrathi has done something very special. He won the FIDE Grand Swiss and made a spot for himself at the FIDE Candidates 2024. After he landed in India, Vidit was in the city of Mumbai for a couple of days, just spending some time with his friend Samay Raina. Sagar Shah went to meet Vidit and did this podcast with him. It is an intimate conversation where Vidit speaks about what the title means to him, the role of his family and parents, reveals his trainers, how his Guru Om Swami has motivated him and much more. This Podcast gives an insight not into Vidit Gujrathi the chess player, but rather the personal side of this world class GM.

Pranesh M wins 32nd Caen Open 2023, Nubairshah third

GM Pranesh M, IM Vladyslav Larkin (UKR) and IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh scored an unbeaten 6/7 each at 32nd Caen Open A 2023. Pranesh became champion due to better tie-breaks, Larkin second and Nubairshah third. Pranesh drew against Larkin and Nubairshah in fifth and seventh round respectively. Pranesh and Nubairshah were the only two Indians taking part in this event. The total prize fund was €3800. The top three prizes were €1000 + trophy, €600 and €400 each respectively. This is Pranesh's fourth tournament triumph of the year after starting 2023 by becoming India's 79th Grandmaster and winning Rilton Cup 2022-23.
